About to have a very small bcc removed from the side of my nose in a couple of weeks. I’m having it removed without having had a biopsy first and with a 4mm margin of excision. Has anyone found that their bcc was deeper or wider than expected and if so what happened?
I have major anxieties in these situations and try to help myself by being as prepared as possible.
Thanks
HiYM I have had a bcc removed from the side of my nostril on my cheek without biopsy as Dermatologist and plastic surgeon were 100% sure it was a bcc from the dermascope. I had mine done with a skin flap from the facial line at the side of my face and the bcc excised and skin stitched. Lots of stitches when the dressing first came off I was tearful, but once they were removed and healing started it was ok. Your surgeon will tell you whern it is time to massage really hard. I used bio oil but the unperfumed nivea cream or vaseline I was told were ok. In time mine has faded and really peope can't tell it is there. Of course I know, but once make up is on I can barely see it. I had it done by plastic surgeon, with just local anaesthetic and once that was over I was fine, Mine looked like a grain of rice which wouldnt heal and sometimes bled. Keep in touch and here if you need to ask anything else. Good luck x
Thank you so much. I've ordered some bio oil and some silicon gel and have been told I can use local anaesthetic cream before the procedure - takes a lot of stress away for me. (It's really small but the whole thing has unnerved me so much). This forum has been so supportive and informative. I'll keep in touch x
I’ve just had a bcc removed from the side of my face. No biopsy either as gp, dermatologist and plastic surgeon were 100% sure it was a bcc. Due to the margins and shape of cut my scar will be much bigger than I was anticipating.
I’m 4 days post surgery so still waiting to see how it looks but my anxiety disappeared straight after the surgery and a relief that it has finally been removed.
Mine has been sent to histology too as they check that it has all been taken out. My surgeon said he gets it 97% of the time so hopefully all good.
I have two layers of dissolvable stitches and no need to see the surgeon for a follow up unless I’m concerned about the wound/scar. I can get the dressing wet from tomorrow then gently ease it off when it’s ready. I’m expecting a scar about an inch long from the bcc that was about 1.2-1.5 cm
