I had a December 11 appointment for a consult regarding a shiny pink 1/4" nodule on the tip of my nose ... it's been there about a year, hasn't really changed much but I got concerned when I saw a post from a friend indicating they've had several bouts with skin cancer on the face/nose. In doing my research about it, I discovered that I have extensive scar-like areas covering my nose up to almost the bridge, as well as a dime-sized shiny scarry area on each side of my upper nose, and shiny scarry areas at both sides of my nose in the crease around the nostrils and extending slightly below. As I'm waiting for my appointment, I see more questionable sites popping up, one below and touching and perhaps ON my lower lip extending kind of wide, and one dime-sized one on each cheek. I called the dermatologist today to express my concern about possible aggressive morpheaform BCC spreading while I'm waiting for a consultation, and I was lucky to receive a substitute appointment with a different dermatologist tomorrow morning. I recently turned 60 years old, am light skinned and blue eyed, had several pretty serious sunburns on my face in my earlier years, and I've virtually lived on prednisone for the past 3 years (immuno-compromised?) for chronic sinus infections and asthma. I'm so angry at myself for not noticing these scarry areas ... I just thought I had some shiny, bad skin, some acne scars, etc. but from what I'm seeing, it seems to be a no-brainer that it's morpheaform BCC. I will find out for sure tomorrow I guess. I'm just trying hard to get in and get treatment because I fear the situation is so extensive, that it will be inoperable, especially if it grows and spreads while I wait for an appointment. I wonder why so many different spots? If my assessment is correct and it is morpheaform BCC, are these all separate, new growths? Is it one growth that is spreading? If so, why are there spots in between that don't have it? Why would I suddenly develop 6 or 8 new growths? Although it's very possible these have been there for years and there is nothing sudden about it. Google it ... it's VERY innocuous looking and unnoticeable. The average person, like me, believes that they should look for moles, nodules, lumps and bumps ... not flat, shiny areas that look like so many other things. I wear makeup daily and you literally can't see any of it when I have makeup on, and you have to look very hard to see it when it's off. I use an extremely bright light and a magnifying mirror to see it well. Nervous about my appointment tomorrow but happy to finally be seen. I'm dreaming that I go in and at best I'm told there's nothing to worry about and at worst, I'm told I have a nodular small BCC on the tip of my nose that can be easily excised/cured and that the morpheaform-looking things are just other skin issues. I'll post here after my appointment, and thanks so much to those who have been supportive and informative so far!

Hi Cheryl and a very warm welcome to the online community although I'm sorry you've had to find us.
It's great to hear that you've already had support from others here who have BCC. I hope everything goes well tomorrow and that your BCC isn't as extensive as you fear.

WELL LO AND BEHOLD! I had the nodule at the tip of my nose biopsied, results will come in about 10 days. Dermatologist said it's 75% likely a fibrous papule, 25% basal cell cancer. I will be fine either way. NO morpheaform basal cell cancer. He saw nothing resembling it and said I have acne scarring and some milia, nothing alarming or worth biopsying! I am beside myself .. all that worry for nothing! If I don't have morpheaform BCC, with all the spots that I see that look exactly like it on the web, then I don't have a clue what to look for or how to recognize it if I ever get it in the future because I don't know how something could look more like it than what I have on my face. I will just hope it's so rare, that I'm not likely to get it anyway and don't need to know how it looks!
This experience has made me oh-so-vigilant and I'm going to make lots of changes in my life now. NO more sun exposure without sunscreen, protective clothing and hats. I'm going to try to use less prednisone for my sinus infections and asthma issues, and try to clear them up other ways.
I did get an appointment with my opthalmologist yesterday morning because I have small growths/cysts/bumps on my lower eyelids in spots, with some lash loss on my upper eyelid. Opthalmologist gave me the all clear and said it's likely from dry eyes and the bumps are normal. I do have a cataract starting on one eye, so she said to always wear sunglasses and this is likely caused by age and steroid use as well.
I can certainly live with all of this, because the alternative was I thought I was going to be disfigured from BCC. Thanks for the support of everyone in this group. I will update when my biopsy results come in. Best wishes to everyone in the meantime, and I hope everyone gets the same good news I got!

UPDATE - Biopsy results are in, it's a non-cancerous, benign fibrous papule. Sigh. Just thought I would update you, and say thank you so much, once again, for the responses to questions, the support and the information on this site. I certainly wish everyone the best and wish there was something we could do to rid this earth of cancer of all types FOREVER! There are far too many people living with, worrying about, and suffering from that horrid disease! Best wishes to all.

That's fantastic news Cheryl! I hope you're planning a little celebration.
I'm glad that you've found the Community helpful and maybe you could pop back every now and then to let others know that things don't always turn out badly.
Take care
