Hi I'm new to this forum and am writing in desperation as I'm really starting to run out of patience.

After having a facial biopsy at hospital in September, I had to wait till mid November for my results where I was told I had BCC.  I was told that I would have to be referred to Salford Royal for surgery as the hospital that did the biopsy didn't do this surgery.  It then took the hospital a further 2 weeks to do a referral to Salford which they received on the 01/12/17 and now at 28/02/18 (3 months on) I still haven't been seen or even had a letter for an appointment.  Every time I have rang, I'm told I'm on  awaiting list but they are unable to give me any timescales of how long I will have to wait.   I think I've been really patient up to now especially knowing that I've probably had this cancer since last summer but I do feel the hospital waiting times are not acceptable for a patients well being.  I'm not sleeping, starting to feel stressed and the BCC is starting to get very itchy which keeps me awake at night as its on my forehead so the pillow against my head seems to irritate it.  this is the first BCC I've unfortunately had and I was just wondering if this waiting is normal as my doctor told me the cancer I have is a good cancer and not a cancer that will spread but it still doesn't make me feel any better about my situation and the time I'm having to wait.

    Hi Denise

Thank you for your response and sharing your experience, it does help to hear others that have been through this, being so positive.

I'm sure it will be fine and at the end of the day, its got to be done so I've just got to  accept it.  Your surgery sounds a lot more complicated than I'm expecting to have but I suppose you never know how its going to go till the actual day.

I'm sure I will be fine, thank you for your reply.x

Well I had my surgery on 2nd July. The surgeon managed to get it all in the first attempt which was good and I was home for lunch time. The downside was he wasn't able to stitch my wound as it would of been too tight. So I was told that it was a secondary intention wound and it would heal naturally in time. I was sent home with a pressure dressing and some dressings and ointment with the instructions that the district nurse would change my dressings alternate days. Unfortunately for me I couldn't get a district nurse appointment for over a week. I was advised therefore by the booking servis to go to my local walk in centre. So I did, the receptionist on the desk commented to her colleague that my dressing change was not in the budget so I rather felt quite a Burdon. The nurse that saw me said it was fine to go there but they decided to pack my wound which was not the instructions provided and I was in terrible pain till the district nurse finally saw me. I'm now 3 weeks on and still off work as the nurse thinks I'm better away from work cause of the risk of infection.plus I'm still feeling pretty drained to be honest. I think it's a combination of the surgery and the stress of it all before and after surgery. Im back to see my consultant on Monday so I'll see what he thinks about me going back to work.

Has anyone else had experience of a secondary intention wound healing time as I feel like ive been off a while but the tissue is now starting to rebuild but I think it's probably another month before it may of healed completely.

    Hi there,

I'm so sorry to hear that your aftercare wasn't what it should have been, especially after things seemed to have started so well. I'm not surprised that you feel tired - you're absolutely right about the stress having an effect.

I hope things go well with the consultant, and if you are able to go back to work, do take things slowly.

    All the best

    Denise
