Hi all, I have recently being diagnosed with sebaceous carcinoma, a type of skin cancer. I had the lump removed a few weeks ago. From ultrasound to operation was really quick. My lump has been sent off to be tested for a genetic mutation, muir torre. At the time my surgeon said it would take 6 weeks to get the results, I had a letter to go back to hospital after 3. I’m really scared, I’m trying to stay strong for my parents as my dad has kidney & liver cancer & also for my good friends & I can’t tell them how I truly feel as I don’t want to worry them any further. Just really struggling, when I’m on my own I cry when I’m with people I’m all strong & positive.
thank you for listening
Hi Helanner and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll both find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I've only found one other person in the community whose mentioned having the same type of cancer as you, so I'm tagging Betty661 into my reply and hope she'll come on and tell you about her experience.
It would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hi Helennaer I can understand your worry. I have had 2 basal cell skin cancers removed from my face 2 years ago and like you I wasvery worried. I have never heard of sebaceous carcinomas. Where abouts was the lump that you had removed. Please dont cry alone if I can help you through this I will as best I can, but mine seemed different to yours. I had skin flap and skin graft surgery which wasn't plkeasant but I did get over it. Good luck and never feel alone. xx
Thank you, it’s quite a rare form of skin cancer that’s in the sweat glands. The lump was on my back near my left armpit. It’s healing well, only had operation on 15th November. Seeing my surgeon tomorrow to get my results & if I need further treatment. On the whole I’m being very positive, well that’s when I’m around people. On my own is a different matter, I hold everything inside unless I’m alone. Thankfully I have two loving dogs who are both incredible. Fingers crossed it’s good news tomorrow xx
