A couple of questions from someone new to the group

My current diagnosis is an overlap of BCC and SCC and I have been told that I will get the results of which type it is in 6-8 weeks. I am 3 days post scalp excision with a skin graft from my thigh and I am currently very tired and having trouble sleeping. 2 questions from me for now please: How long roughly have people needed off work for something similar? And, when can I wash my hair?

  • Hello, I haven't had my surgery yet so I can't share my own experience with you. But I am surprised they didn't give you instructions on these things before you left the hospital. When I had my appointment with the plastic surgeon he told me I would need to rest for at least a week and won't be able shower or wash my hair while I have the dressing on which will be a week to 10 days. I have one BCC on my cheek, this was the surgery he was telling me about. I don't know yet if that will  need a skin graft or a skin flap  I've also had a biopsy on my nose for a second lesion which I'm waiting for results for. Hopefully someone who has had surgery will reply soon with more helpful information..

  • Hi Ruth77,

Thank you for responding. I got some information but it was not consistent between the consultant, surgeon and nurses. I have an appointment to have my head dressing checked next week so hopefully can get some clarity then. Good luck to you Blush

  • Sorry to hear.  My mom had scc also on scalp and had large skin graft from thigh. She is a pensioner so dont know about time off work but it was about 8 weeks before I could wash her hair

  • Thank you for replying and hope things go well for your mum

  • Hi

When I had a bcc removed from my nose the surgeon said that I could get my hair washed hairdresser style...  mine didn't have stitches though as it was left to heal by secondary intention...

  • Thank you Puckettyboo. A friend has given me a hair shield to try. If my husband uses the shower wand so that I don't get my thigh dressing or top of my head wet - then I might have a way forward Blush
