I am eight weeks post skin flap on my nose. When do people start applying sun cream. I am now starting to go out a bit more. I have brought Altruist sun cream on a recommendation. Fragrance free and paraban free. Planning on going out and wearing a cap. Not got appointment with consultant until June 6th so was planning to ask him but appointment is ages away. Has anyone been told when can apply.  Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Its me again  I wear the Boots No 7 Factor 50 suncream every single day.  Serum, Moisturiser then suncream.  If I am going out I then apply No 7 Factor 50 foundation.  My Consultant told me to not even hang washing out on a sunny day without protection.  I am so cautious.  Hubby also got me a Factor 50 sun umbrella for the garden that also tilts. This was from John Lewis and is  brilliant Just had coffee sitting under it.  We have to lead as normal a life as possible, but take extra care.  I wear sun hats on holiday and if out for a day, but not for shopping etc. Had I been a sun sorhsipper all my life and used sun beds I could accept it, but I didnt. Just walked around normally in it and may have sat on a beach for an hour, no more and always used sun cream.  I am so fair skiined I am white but dont care now about being sun tanned,  I look at people walking around on holiday looking like a baked lobster and think just wait until you are older, you will suffer. Love to all fellow sufferers xx

  • Hi

It's good that you're looking for ways of covering up but please don't be tempted by a baseball cap as they do not protect your ears or the back of your neck.

  • Using a gentle, fragrance-free sun cream like the one you got sounds like a good plan, and wearing a cap definitely helps. When healing, it’s best to start sunscreen gradually—some folks wait until the skin feels less sensitive but still protect it fully. Tried some Korean skincare from Mily CR once; their dermatologist-approved formulas were really gentle and nourishing, so maybe look for something similarly soothing.
