Hello
I am new here and am not sure if this is the right place to post or not?
I am currently recovering from my second surgery of diagnosed SCC of my right hand which is my dominant hand.
My surgery was 6 days ago and more complicated than my first surgery 8 months ago. I have a splint over my dressings to restrict hand movement. I'm typing slowly with one finger. The surgery was tricky but the Doctor/Surgeon thinks this time, hopefully he has managed to remove all of the tumour.. I''m now in a period of recovery stitches not out until after Easter and am quite anxious waiting for the results.
I'm just wondering if anyone else has had a SCC return quite soon after a first surgery and also managing not being able or allowed to use your hand much which i'm finding difficult and struggling with doing everyday stuff.
Thank you in advsnce for any help or support
Hi Katkinz and a very warm welcome to our corner of the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
Although I've had two types of skin cancer over the years I haven't had SCC but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Hi there, I am waiting for results if BCC or SCC. I don't have any experience of what you are going through SCC wise. However, I had an unrelated operation on my dominant hand last year and was in a cast and splints for several months - it is very frustrating! I tried some relaxation techniques (didn't always work). Try to do some nice things for yourself in the meantime.

Thankyou so much for your reply. It is quite rare and uncommon in the hand I believe. As I am also immunosupressed I am classed at higher risk, whether that has anything to do with the tumour returning quite soon or not I am not sure.
It's been difficult as I live alone after losing my partner a few years ago. My daughters live close by but I am very independant and don't want to be a burden to them, so yes it is very frustrating. Managed to do a couple of things with my left hand and just had to take the down time as it is what it is.
Wishing you all the best and also with your results and for the best outcome for us both going forward
Hello I have just found out I have a SCC On my left hand - it grew quite a lot in around 3 weeks so I have to go back and see my dermatologist. I am immunosuppressed taking methotrexate and adalimumab and have MGUS too so a bit concerned - my letter says SCC but a leaflet I was sent said Bowens so going to speak to someone tomorrow to clarify- hope all goes well for us all x
Hello Feebjeebs
Hope you managed to speak to someone to clarify about the SCC/Bowens. I would think if your letter said SCC then that would be correct. Could I ask if you had the lesion removed/ biopsied ? as this is usual practice to confirm diagnosis.
I was diagnosed with my SCC last July after removal/biopsy.. It was dealt with quickly after I had an appointment via Skin hub at my local primary care centre where pictures were taken of my lesion with a dermascope. I received an email a few hours after my appointment with an urgent referral as SCC was suspected. I had the Surgery/ biopsy a few weeks later on the fast track cancer pathway. Then I received a call to attend for my results within a few weeks. At this appointment when I was given my diagnosis I was assigned a CNS and told I would need to attend every 3 months for checks going forward. I'm thankful for these checks as anything further or suspicious is dealt with quickly, hence my second surgery a few weeks ago.
I also take Methotrexate. I can honestly say I have had excellent care all through so please do try not to worry to much (easier said than done I know) I hope all goes well for you and your appointment with your dermatologist going forward.
Best wishes
I do hope all goes well for you at your appointment re next steps and going forward. Sometimes the waiting can be tricky to deal with.
I'm doing ok thank you and healing not too badly. It's just the waiting for histology now. I am trying to keep myself occupied. My little granddaughter is a good distraction. I love spending time with her. Let me know how things go for you if you feel upto it.
Take care
