Newly diagnosed cancer of appendix

Hi all, after having my appendix out in May I was told I had a 7.5cm cancer of my appendix.  It's 9 weeks on Wednesday and I will get to see my surgeon on Wednesday.  As much as I know it's aggressive and I have been referred to my specialist centre Basingstoke for further surgery and chemo.  My concerns are that pain is poorly controlled and my surgeons secretary said I had my treatment and this would be routine.  Given that I had follicular thyroid cancer 2020 I do not see how a long wait for treatment can be considered routine.  Anybody had similar experience please.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm not a member of this forum but noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

  • Hi ....I had my appendix removed in March 2022 and was diagnosed with LAMN... it was an incidental finding as I was meant to be having a hysterectomy.  I was referred by my local hospital to The Christie (the other specialist hospital in the UK) and saw my Consultant in May 2022 with a surgery date of July 2022.  There was quite a lot of work going on in the background between March 2022 and May 2022 at The Christie as they discussed my case at the MDT and worked out what was needed. Hopefully by now you have spoken to your Consultant at Basingstoke and will have been given advice about the pain you are feeling.

  • Great to hear from you.  No I am still waiting to here from Basingstoke.  I see my surgeon tomorrow who took my appendix out.  He will go over what needs doing.  The concern for me is his secretary said I have had my treatment and it's routine.  I am in terrible pain and due to long wait time for Basingstoke I am concerned for my future.  The abdominal swelling is bad and since appendicectomy my abdomen has increased 10 inches.
