Hi, my husband was diagnosed on 14/10 with T3B. He then had a PET scan which was clear thank god. He considered surgery but because of the seminal vesicles involvement the hormone therapy and radiotherapy was the recommended route. He started biculutamide 50 last Friday and first injection next Monday.

we are both anxious about side effects and impact on our lives for the next three years. Anyone here going through it or gone through this treatment?

sorry PSA 4.9 . Gleason score 7

Thanks for reading

  • Hi Stella

My 61 yr old husband had his diagnosis confirmed in July 25, T3b, Gleason 4&5, PSA 6.5
He is currently on HT and nearing the end of 23 RT sessions. This was preceded by Brachytherapy.

The RT he is tolerating well but the Abiraterone he is taking as well has caused him aching joints and fatigue. On the whole he has been pretty well upto now and the consultant is fairly confident the cancer cells have been fully zapped.  He has taken some time off work as the daily trips end up being 3-4 hrs depending on traffic but bonus as lots of jobs are now being carried out at home and plenty of exercise to help maintain strength
it will be a wait and see situation going forward, wishing you both all the best

  • Hi, my husband was diagnosed with t3b Gleason 7 July this year. He is on reluxgolix, Tramsulosin and vibegron. He has had 20 Sessions of radiotherapy. He has struggled going to the loo with lower abdominal pain after radiotherapy, he finished his treatment on the 17 October. We are waiting to see the oncologist 19th of November. When he was first diagnosed his PSA was 42. After a few months on hormone tablets his PSA went down to 3.11. He is having aPSA blood test on the 14th before we see the oncologist. Fingers crossed. My head is all over the place at the moment, constantly worrying. Jan

  • Hi

    I'm T3b - one seminal vesticle - capsular extension - Gleeson 9 (4+5)

    Initial PSA was 15.6

Petscan result today - thankfully clear!

Due to my high grade , surgery ruled out early .

Just started Orgovyx - for two years.

Radiotherapy due to start Feb -

  • Good morning.

My start was over a year ago.

    My staging was T3b N1 M0. Gleason 9..

Clear Bone Scan. MRI and CT scan confirmed that tumour had escaped the gland but was still very local.

Agreed treatment plan was "radical radiotherapy" with 3 years of  hormone therapy.

I am now almost 1.5 years into the Hormone Therapy, and just over 7 months on from the end of the. Radiotherapy.

The treatment appears to be proceeding on track as my PSA is now undetectable.

The side effects have now settled down into 3 main areas:

    • Erectile dysfunction and loss of libido. At 73, and where my wife has had problems which had already led us to be calm about this impact, this has had less impact on me than it does on others.
    • Hot flushes. They come and they go. They do not last long. They are signs that my testosterone levels is very low, which means that the therapy is doing its job. I usually spend a minute or two imagining rogue cancer cells boiling in their own juices. That causes a smile.
    • Fatigue. This has the most impact but does not set me back. It is controlled by exercise and a short, 15 minute nap in the middle of the day. I plan around it and live life as it comes to me.

So, in short, a good measure of success and side effects that I can deal with.

    My very best wishes.

    Steve

    Changed, but not diminished.
