Hi everybody! Ives just recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer and sating hormone treatment. I'm 70 years old and live in Newhaven, East Sussex.
Hi Jonney good to meet you but sorry you have joined our club. If you know your Gleason score and Staging (TNM) it helps with any questions you might have. Hope the HT is ok for you and please ask if you want help or post here if you just want to share your experiences. Best wishes, David
HiJonney . Welcome to the family. The initial diagnosis is the most frightening part of the journey as suddenly you are thrown into a whole new world of terminology and uncertainty. There is a very good book which you can download for free as a starter to help you understand what is going on, what tests are needed and then the different options for managing and treating it. If you could let us know a little bit about your journey so far it helps us to tailor responses more specifically for you and also stops us from asking you to repeat yourself. To do this click on the chair by your name, go to 'edit profile', type away and don't forget to save at the end.

The hormone therapy can come with a range of side effects but that doesn't mean that you will get them all. Fatigue and loss of muscle is one of the main things men have to contend with but trying to stay fit and with some resistance exercises can help. Loss of libido happens pretty quickly so it is important to look after your penile health by keeping the blood flowing - speak to your doctors about the possibility of tablets plus manual stimulation can help to reduce the shrinkage - use it or lose it. Hormone therapy and loss of testosterone can result in bone thinning so also ask about calcium and vitamin D supplements.
There is a lot to take in initially for both you and your family if you have one but support is available for everyone. Please ask any questions and feel free to join in any of the conversations.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
