Hello all,
New to this.
Recently diagnosed PCa. PSA 8, stageT3a N0, Gleason 7 - 3+4. Recent CT scan shows no spread. Have seen consultant urologist and consultant oncologist in the last week. I have to make a choice between radical prostatectomy or HT/RT. The information I have been given has been very thorough with both consultants being very positive about the potential outcomes but clearly with their own clinical bias.
I would just like to know how people on here reached their decision as both seem to carry a similar level of success with associated side effects. However, other side effects and, potentially longer lasting side effects, seem to be apparent between the two treatment types.
Any thoughts, experiences etc would be gratefully received.
Many thanks
Hi Buzzers,
I’ve just read your bio, it’s a very informative and well documented journey. I hope more people read it who are in a similar position as they will find it so helpful.
Best wishes L
*Just read everyone’s bio on this thread. So interesting. I’m so disappointed when I find someone’s post intriguing and then click on their bio and find nothing. I wish more people would take the time.
Good Morning trom57a
Yes alcohol in moderation during your HT journey is fine - during your Radiotherapy it's a no no. I was lucky as my Radiotherapy was all of January and thus "dry January" for me was a fact!!
Best wishes - Brian.

Good Morning BW
I am trying to encourage folk to edit their profile as our Prostate Cancer journey is different for us all. It also helps when replying to posts to find out just where someone is.
So good folk out there - fellow Community members - to write your profile:
Go the your icon on your home page - top right hand corner - it's a chair unless you have altered it. Then click on "profile" and then "edit" and off you go.
Thanks for that - Brian.

Good Morning eddiel Eddie - I think for everyone the important bit is the diagnosis and then any side effects they have from the treatment. If like yourself you have other "issues" it's handy to know of these because they can also impact your personal treatment.
Best wishes going forward - Brian.

Hi Barry W,
Thank you for the kind feedback.
I was initially very reticent about documenting my journey as it felt very personal to me, however, as I spent more time reading up on group posts I realised how much support I personally was getting from the group. It helped change a very scary & worrying illness into something that others had dealt with (or were dealing with) & so became far less daunting. After this light bulb moment it only seemed right to document my own journey with the hope that it may support someone else. In a funny way, it also helped me personally writing it all down & not constantly have thoughts going around it my head, a bit like keeping a notepad & pen by your bedside so you can jot them down if you wake up in the night.
What I love about the group is everyone's willingness to support one another with advice, personal experiences, details of latest treatments & most importantly hope. Added to this is humour which can lighten a bad day. The fact that posts are from wives, partners, family & guys with prostate cancer makes it even more invaluable.
All the best
Brian
Morning Brian
Another damp misty day in Cornwall hence catching up on here.
Totally agree with you about how helpful it can be having up to date profiles as this can help others in similar situations. As a way of promoting this, is it worth considering having a pop up that appears after someone posts a reply or new thread to encourage them to create / update their profile? It wouldn't necessarily have to be after every post but maybe after the members first post & then on an occasional basis thereafter so it wasn't intrusive. Not sure what others would think about this but I'm sure it would be something that the good folks in the Macmillan IT section could create.
Hope everyone has enjoyed their beers
All the best
Brian
Good Afternoon Buzzers Brian - What a cracking idea - we have our monthly Community Champions & Staff meeting on Wednesday so I will bring the idea up - and the beauty of it is when I say "it's Brian's idea" I may get credited for thinking about it!! (only joking!!).
Funny thing is I have read through my profile a few times and thought - wow!! - that was me 12 months ago - things are much better now. There's something therapeutic about writing and when it's personal like that you know you need to act on it.
As for this group - yes we have a great Community here - I really appreciate how everyone contributes in their own way - we have an amazing selection of folk - as a volunteer I don't feel the need to check up all the time on new Community members- when one comes along asking for help etc - as a group it's sorted very quickly. That's brilliant.
Thanks - Brian - from Brian.
