Afternoon all. I thought it was time to join up.
I was diagnosed in October and have been on the hormones since. My RT starts next Tuesday for 7 weeks. My treatment so far at Colchester has been excellent.
I'm 71 and had been getting tested for years as my dad had it from about my age and died aged 77 in 1991. But that was so long ago in medical treatment terms that it's almost irrelevant.
I'll be interested to hear of your RT experiences, how it makes you feel. The hormone jabs really take it out of you. Hot flushes after any physical effort and at random other times. Do you get that weird fizzing feeling across the chest before the flush? Sluggish, forgetful, not that anyone who knows me spotted the difference.
It took me 3 goes to get through the CT scan; 1) too much wind! 2) total blockage due to enforced change of diet! 3) back to regular diet and hope for the best.
I had a TURP in early December. I had been on Mirabegron for quite a while to help me pee, although I was never aware of any real benefit, and left it off, with the agreement of my GP after the op. Then I started getting bladder spasms and peeing 20+ times a day. Thank heavens for Tena pants. Then it turns out that the cure for the spasms is Mirabegron and it works great. I still wear them when I go out, just in case, but not at night as, for some reason, the lady is not turned on by them.
Good luck chaps.
Hello Scutch and Welcome - it's the place to be even if you don't want to be here!!
Personal Experiences - these are mine and don't forget we are all different:
Hormone treatment - Not too many issues, weight gain, erectile issues, mood swings, crying for England and hot flushes (although I have cured mine by taking Sage Tablets) and my boobs have grown - thanks NHS!! - oh and itchy skin!!
Radiotherapy - No issues apart from increased need to pee and broken sleep. The one thing I would say is follow the instructions of the Radiologist to the letter. If you have a diet sheet, stick to it. Nothing that gives you wind and follow the bowl procedure.
Anything else, just ask, If you want to follow my journey, just click on the picture of the beach. If you add your statistics - Gleason score etc this also helps us to help you. They are a good crowd here!!
Good luck on your journey.

Hello Scutch.
I experiences include hot flushes and night sweats that appear any time of day, mood swings and tears brought on my silly little things and problems peeing - although I've been put on Tamulosin tablets which has helped there.
Everyone is different so listen to your body and talk to your RT team about anything and everything you are worried about.
Good luck on your journey
Regards
Pete
thanks for your replies and encouragement chaps. I've not had mood swings although of course it's hard to feel one's best right now. I was pretty fit, still doing some running, walking up mountains, but I've lost so much energy and the will to do much. i've put on a bit of weight, the wrong sort ,and my skin has aged ten years in 6 months. and as for sex drive...fortunately, I have my little dog who needs to get out in any weather and it's nice countryside around here so I'm not totally idle. I've always felt a bit down in the winter and perk up in spring, and I have an allotment that needs some attention, so when it stops raining I'll need to get over there.
Scutch, what's a sex drive? I think I used to have one before...
I had never thought about skin aging, but when I think about it mine has aged as well.
I hope your RT started ok. By the 3rd week that was when the fatigue really hit me. It worked out for me as I am now 13 months into Remission.
Persevere, it will be ok after it all has finished.
A tip for your Radiotherapy, ask for a tube of Flamigel. It is to rub into any areas that get caught out by the Radiation. Works wonders. Only available at Radiotherapy departments.

Hi Steve, thanks, I'll ask about the Flamigel. Do you think that you've got most of your energy back?
Day 2, all well so far. I'm being sensible with my diet, which was pretty good anyway, but just cut out caffeine and most alcohol and then follow the instructions for the couple of hours prior to the session.
It's great to hear that it has gone well for you. What further checks are you having?
It sounds like I shouldn't ask about the sex drive! I did get my gp to prescribe me Sildenafil and I get 8 per month but to be honest, they're sitting in a drawer, I can't be bothered to use them. It's a weird feeling to have no interest in that stuff. Just as well as I had 4 young women poking me around, pulling my pants down, getting me in position for the RT today.
All the best, keep well.
Steve
Steve & Scutch - We need to start our own club - not sure what we should call it - "Fatigued, Lack of sex Drive and Skin of an 80 year old!!
The bit I found strange about the RT sessions was they went to the trouble of giving me free tattoos - thanks NHS - something else free along with the boobs, and then some of the radiologists would make black felt tip marks on my body to show where the tattoos were!!
Good luck with the remaining 18 fractions - it will soon be over!!

Scutch. Brian,
Brian, I like the 'skin of an 80 year old' bit. What about doing adverts on the telly, think of "Oil of Ulay". "You could have skin like this!!!"
Maybe not!!
Scutch, no questions are taboo. Having no sex drive meant I never thought about what I couldn't do.
My energy was coming back but it is back to where it was after the last Radiation session. Annoying to say the least. I am trying to get my fitness up a bit. So hard. Absolutely no stamina.
Scutch, glad your Radiotherapy is going well. I never had a diet sheet, just told to stay off Caffeine and Alcohol while on the treatment.
Keep us posted on how it goes.

That made me cry laughing - It's so true - it must be my hormones!!
Scutch - I wasn't give a diet sheet, just told to stay off the alcohol and avoid beans, pulses and anything else like green leaf vegetables that might give me wind.
Let us know how it goes.
Brian.

35 to go I'm afraid Brian. I was just advised re diet but after I failed my first CT scan due to a bit of wind, I think I took their advice too seriously and blocked up completely for a couple of days so had to rearrange again and got through. Fortunately it didn't affect my due start date.
Oil of Ugly perhaps?
