Anyone at stage 4 had any experience of this regime? Clinical study shows a remarkable effect at stage 4 advanced metastatic prostate cancer. The triple pronged approach was found to reduce risk of death by 32% and a 65% increase in progression free survival and prolonged life by 4 years!!
It was approved for use in 2020 in NHS but I’m just wondering if anyone here has any experience of Darolutamide?
FYI the article was found in the Daily Mail on Sunday on Feb 27th ‘22 and was written by Ethan Ennals.
We are going to see the oncologist in a couple of weeks and as my lovely hubby is doing great on Zytiga and Prostap I want to know if he will be offered chemo and Darolutamide.
All the best,
from Louli
HI We are going to talk to the Consultant about this on Monday - it's only available privately I think for the 3 pronged attack. ie. in conjunction with Chemo and HT. My hubby has only just been diagnosed but as he is relatively young and he has Gleason 9 they may recommend it. His mets are the pelvis, lymph nodes and ?ribs/sternum
Oncologist recommended because even though my dh has limited spread it is a 9. It works by blocking the androgen receptors of the tumour. Just waiting to see if health insurance will pay for it- The problem being my health insurance that covers my dh stops when I leave work and the treatment is for ever :( I wanted to retire and spend time with hubby in year or two.
Hi Maxxi,
May I ask what age your oh is and what area of the world you are in. Uk? Where? We haven’t been offered anything just Prostap and Zytiga.
My hubby is 71 and it would appear 70 is the cut off for hard line chemo until the Zytiga stops working.
its so hard to play the waiting game…
sending you much love xx
Hi we are being treated in Southampton and dh is almost 60. Using it in the way he has been prescribed is only available with private health and is new. Practice. WPA have authorised Darolutamide for him so that is good however I we are now checking whether it’s taken just during chemo or for ever after. It is available on nhs I believe but for different set of criteria. Big hugs Maxxy
I'm due to start chemotherapy. I'm not sure if I will be offered Darolutamide as I read if cancer has spread further than lymph nodes you can't get it. Docetaxil will be the chemo drug I will be getting though. I'm hearing horror stories og being on chemo, I can't wait. But if you say it's a 3 prong approach that increase survival I'm all up for it.
Thanks for posting as it gave me a bit of release from the chemo fears
Hi
I can tell you it will improve your survival rate, I’m a living embodiment of that. You’ll have downs and some ups while on chemo but the end result out ways anything else. What we try to do is not sugar coat anything, but we’re not doctors and everyone is different. My three prong was hormone therapy to drop my PSA, chemo to kill the cancer and radiotherapy to reduce the swelling of the prostate and kill any cancer.
Of course this does not last for us stage fours, but there are new medications arriving all the time, so plan B is always good to have on your side.
stay safe
Joe
