Anyone at stage 4 had any experience of this regime? Clinical study shows a remarkable effect at stage 4 advanced metastatic prostate cancer. The triple pronged approach was found to reduce risk of death by 32% and a 65% increase in progression free survival and prolonged life by 4 years!!
It was approved for use in 2020 in NHS but I’m just wondering if anyone here has any experience of Darolutamide?

FYI the article was found in the Daily Mail on Sunday on Feb 27th ‘22 and was written by Ethan Ennals.

We are going to see the oncologist in a couple of weeks and as my lovely hubby is doing great on Zytiga and Prostap I want to know if he will be offered chemo and Darolutamide.

All the best,

from Louli

  • Thanks. I would be really interested to hear more about this .

  • Hi

I have looked at the above medication and from all the tests, it appears to be working very well, although I do not know if it’s still trialing or available as a treatment. I have an appointment in ten days and will ask the question. I know there’s other new treatments out there I’m on enzalutamide but I always ask for a plan B, if this fails what’s the next step.

    Stay safe joe

  • Yes it looks like a real option if Enzalutmide stops working before opting for chemo. Details are on the Prostrate UK web site. It can't be used if the cancer has already started to spread again, so it will be very patient specific.

  • Hi

Ive had chemo when first diagnosed, but was told I could have it again, although I’m a lot weaker now plus I have a few other conditions going, I feel having chemo clogged up my heart arteries but I have them checked every year, that’s why I’m always looking on the nhs web sites for new medications and the Mayo in America.

    stay safe

  • Thank you Joe…

  • Thanks I will pop over to the site for a look.

  • I have just read the article and it says that Darolutamide (Nubeqa) is a new type of hormone therapy for men whose prostate cancer has stopped responding to other types of HT but has not yet spread to other parts of the body. If your cancer has spread to other parts of your body, darolutamide won’t be an option. Great news for the fight against prostate cancer but not so much for people like me who have been diagnosed straight in at stage 4.

  • Yes I now see the NICE Guidelines for use but this trial gave great results when it was used in conjunction with Docetaxil and HT. The article I have in front of me says the trial was used in advanced metastatic PC… I  am so sorry if I have misled anyone here.

Let’s double check …but remember prescribing habits in expensive drugs always limit use to those patients with higher chance of success. Ie. Early stage PC but as wider exposure to the drug used in combination with other drugs and real life scenarios then perhaps we are seeing a real breakthrough.

    With much kindness,

    Louli

  • You haven't misled anyone Lou, it's always good to hear of new treatments and read up on them so thank you. Do you have a link to the article we're Darolutamide has been used in metastatic PC please? I get what you say about the trials, I don't have much knowledge of how they are run but what you say makes sense and hopefully it could be used for advanced PC. Take care x

  • Hi Louli, my wife brought this article to my attention, whilst reading the mail online last week. I will not be seeing my oncologist till May, so will be very interested in what you are told.

All the best to you and your husband, Ulls
