Hi my name is Jan my husband Dave was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer two years ago. It was by chance he went for an MOT. He was 69 at the time and had no symptoms. His PSA was 32, after biopsies and various scans it showed the cancer had spread to his pelvis and lower spine. He then started on hormone injections and three months later 6 rounds of Docetaxol. He responded very well and his PSA was nil. He has to remain on hormones for life. After the chemo he then had 6 rounds of RT targeting on the prostate. After RT in Nov 2020 his PSA had risen to 3.8 consultant said this can happen after RT. Another PSA in Feb 2021 showed another rise to 5.9, 3 weeks later it rose 6.3. Consultant prescribe an extra hormone tablet (Bicalutamide) which he started in March 2021. He stayed on Bicalutamide for 6 months, even though it made him feel like an old man, no energy etc.etc he even struggled to get out of a chair. And after all that his PSA in Sept 2021 had risen to 11. They took him off Bicalutamide, he had a scan and thankfully the cancer hadn’t spread. They then started him on Aberaterone. This medication has been brilliant for his well being he has felt so fit and healthy. But since then his PSA at the last 3 visits has rapidly risen to 28. That was on today’s visit, we were devastated. The consultant said he would give the aberaterone another month (as I have read it can take up to four months before you see results). If it doesn’t work he said Dave can give enzalutamide a go or chemo again. We are both in bits and very scared, as I am sure a lot of you on here are. Just looking for some positivity.

Hi Jan,
I'm new to the site after completing the full prostrate diagnose process and consultations concerning treatment. I am now 4 months into hormone only treatment. My prognosis and path is pretty much the same as your husband Dave's. I am 3 years older, though, and the disease is still contained in the organ.. Me and my family have to now sit in wait for the cancer to break out with only probability and support systems like this for comfort.
We are all putting a brave face on it but as you say there is that unavoidable underlying scary knowledge. The only positivity I can offer is that your generous, honest, forthright evidence, along with everyone else in this forum, is human sharing at its best.
And I find that helpful, comforting and motivational... so cheers, high five and all possible best wishes.
Stephen
Awe Joe you paint a lovely picture of your life together. It’s so similar right down to the bit where you keep making her laugh all the time. I love that. Life is so precious. We had our first real row last night since all this began and there were tears… all because he won’t slow down and even I can’t keep up with him!! I’m exhausted! Lol It all came out and we are better for it. When I realised he is trying so hard to get everything done just in case …it just broke me. Half an hour later we were laughing our head off again! Like your good lady I need to enjoy the moment and stop worrying so very much about too far ahead. There are many lessons in all this. She obviously adores you and is distressed at the thought of a different life to what you have now.
I’m interviewing for more staff for our small business to free us up for the spring/summer coming.. can’t wait! Oh yes and the group! The group! The group!! Couldn’t agree more!
Much love to you both,
Louli
Hi louli
Every couple has bad words, sometimes it’s the moment, sometimes it’s the hormone therapy it can throw emotions all over the place. You say he wants to do everything all at once, as long as his body tells him you just can not do that now, that’s what I’ve found. After I had my treatments I bought a little handheld cam Corder, I started making a how to video ( I used to be a maintenance guy ) and It upset my wife so I stopped, now my wife is a little more happier for me to show her.
I did not know you had a business, I will send my wife for an interview hehe, I certainly hope now we’re a bit more free of covid your business takes off.
The best to you and your husband may you both be here together for many years to come.
Stay safe
Joe

Hi Louli, we met with Daves consultant this morning, a bit better news for a change. He has been on aberaterone for 4 months. After the first month his PSA rose to 12 2nd month it rose to 19 and last month it was 28.
we were terrified about going today as obviously it seemed that the meds were not working. But today his PSA had only risen from 28 to 32, so the consultant is happy to keep him on it for another 2 cycles i e 8 weeks. If his PSA lowers or even stabilises he will keep him on it. Big sigh of relief because to my understanding if it’s not worked after three months they take you off it. Dave is also on a 6 monthly hormone injection.
Love to you both
Jan xx
Hi Andy, just a quick update. We met with Dave’s consultant this morning and his PSA had only risen slightly from 28 to 32 whereas the last two months the increase was a lot higher i.e 19 to 28, this is month 4 of Abiretarone. So the consultant is keeping him on it for 2 more cycles if PSA comes down or stabilises he will stay on it. Feeling more hopeful now that it maybe beginning to work. You say your PSA is high but stable I hope it continues that way for you and you feel well in yourself.
best wishes Jan x
That’s wonderful news. My husband has been on Arbiterone since November with an initial PSA of 44. Yesterday we got the news that his PSA is undetectable. He is stage 4 and has developed type 2 diabetes with the steroids but he is trying really hard.
All the best,
louli
