Hormone treatment rising PSA

Hello my name is Stanley  I have advanced prostate cancer.
I have been on Zoladex for three years. My last PSA rose from 0.08 to 0.13 in a two month interval. I’m speaking to my oncologist tomorrow and am anxious. I don’t know if the pain in my shoulder and upper arm is nerve pain or bone pain. It’s not in one place and seems to move around.
Up to now I’ve felt very well but I’m not sure if a rapid increase in PSA is important or is the low level protective.

  • Hi

That rise in your PSA is very small, I think the oncologist will tell you not to worry, mine was the same to took some time to get to 1 even then they will not be concerned, just keep monitoring it.

Have you had scans as regards the shoulder pain, not knowing your age, or your employment this could be the cause. Remember I’m no doctor just giving advice.

    Stay safe

  • Hi Joe

    Thanks for your helpful post.
I’m speaking to my oncologist tomorrow. He likes to do a PSMA Pet CT every year but we have agreed to leave it because of the pandemic. I now think it’s time to pluck up courage if he suggests it again.
I have been quite worried by my shoulder pain so I think I will agree to a scan to see what’s going on.
I am new to the forum so I am not sure about the relative importance of rate of increase in PSA and absolute value.

  • Hi Stanley as joeven says your psa should not be a cause of concern, if you are not offered a CT scan ask for one, for your own peace of mind. If you would like to see our progression with cancer just touch the cup icons to read our profile.
