Although I have had advanced prostrate cancer for 5 years I thought it might be helpful to briefly share my experience on this site. When diagnosed ( Gleason 9) my prognosis was poor but after 2x chemo , radiotherapy and enzalutamide I was then offered 4 sessions of LU177 which was very effective but expensive. Luckily my insurance co agreed to pay but only for 4 sessions. The results were excellent, however after an experimental blood test it was found that I had a gene defect so with agreement of my insurance co I have been on Olaparib for 6 months and to date it has been very effective . My message however is to remain positive and push hard for the latest treatment . At the moment my quality of life( aged 73) is good and I would also recommend( if possible) regular exercise . I walk about 4 miles daily and it has really helped. Hope this helps and remain positive. Colin
Hi.
I was diagnosed 2014 T3b Gleason 9 (4+5). Started on Bicalutamide and had radiation to pelvic area. 2021 began ADT (Zoladex) and Zytiga.
In 2024 I tested BRCA2+ so agreed to start Lynparza. Have been on this for 14 months, mostly 400mg/day (600 was too much). Even at 400 I found this medication very toxic in terms of SEs. But it kept the cancer at bay (no radiographic progression) and blood counts mostly within range (albeit red and white a bit low sometimes). Am currently on a Lynparza treatment holiday and gradually feeling better. Blood counts and oncology discussion planned early September.
One thing worries me, which is weight loss. Over the past year about 10%. So from 67kg to 60 or so. No diarrhoea, but slightly constipated. I have a good appetite and am eating well, no junk. I go to the gym 2-3 times a week for cardio and weight bearing, and play golf.. so am active.
Am interested to know if anyone else on Lynparza has this weight issue or similar SEs. As the parp inhibitor is not targeted, it may well affect cells connected with the metabolism and may take more time to repair.
