Hi I am new to the group my partner has advanced prostate cancer he was diagnosed in January he is on hormone treatment, he is 65 and very poorly, January his psa was 200+ but this is now dropping, he is very uncomfortable most of the time, he also has other health conditions that he is and has been treated for.
I just dont know what to do for him to make him more comfortable it makes me feel guilty,
You need to go back to your GP (if he's handling the hormone therapy) or the oncology/urology people (whoever has been the lead team). Most Trusts have a dedicated pain team, and of course the specialist nurse may well be very experienced in pain management.
If all else fails, get the GP to refer him to the local hospice team: they aren't just 'end of life' people, they do a lot on symptom management, and when it comes to cancer pain, they're pretty unbeatable.

If I can't beat this, I'm going for the draw.
Meanwhile, my priority is to live while I have the option.
Hello Hug, sorry to read about your partner and how he is. Is he going to be given any other treatment in addition to hormone therapy? With advanced prostate cancer the addition of chemotherapy, Enzalutamide or Abiraterone has been shown to improve outcomes.
I would discuss how to make him more comfortable with his doctors or telephoning the specialist nurses on Macmillan. You can get them on 0808 808 0000.

Dear Hug
my husband was diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer on 18th February. He is on degaralix and they are adding in Enzalutamide next Monday. He has been very ill and I have been so very worried so I can absolutely sympathise with how you feel. I left this group for a while as I couldn’t bear to talk about any of it but feel now I am on day 28 since he was discharged from hospital that there is some comfort gained from being with like minded people. He had a blood transfusion yesterday and his second degaralix injection so he feels much better today although has developed a cough. His initial psa was 3500 and he is 66 so we are in the same boat. I hope you are getting some sleep and send you lots of love x
Hi Hug, I know what your husband is going through, I'm 73 diagnosed in January with advanced prostrate cancer, which has spread to my bones, I had a Decapeptide injection and taking hormone tablets Finasteride Tamsulosin and Enzalutamide, starting radio therapy in April.
To arrange pain relief just inform Oncology or your Macmillan nurse, they will arrange pain relief for him.
Hi
Sorry about what’s happening, there are many here who can give good advice, never feel guilty, what has happened has been out of your control, if the doctor or the oncologist don’t seem to help, try McMillan nurses they are experts at dealing with this type of thing. Give them a call tomorrow.
keep safe.
Joe
Sorry you are going through this, it must be very hard for both of you and as you say being told a timescale is not necessarily helpful. Have you spoken with any of the specialist nurses on MacMillan for advice?

So sorry that you are going through the same, it's a horrible feeling, al sorts of things go through my mind and some days li just feel as if I am in a trance consultant wont give him chemotherapy as he said it would kill him, also told us the outcome for him is 6 months I wish I didn't know, I am trying not to think of that. At the moment so he also has an injection every 12 weeks, he doesn't seem to be able to eat has become very weak, he manages porridge in the morning and then maybe a cup is soup he seems to enjoy icecream and that's it I do cook for him in the hope that he will eat but he just feels sick and cant managed it I am sorry that I have been going on a bit but it's good to talk to someone in the same position, thank you x
