Hello

l am new to this group. Last week my 88year old dad was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer which had spread to his lungs and bones. He had had problems having a wee for quite a while: but refused to go to the GP. Then suddenly he has incurable cancer, we are all devastated. He has had one dose of hormone therapy: we don’t know how long he has to live- I don’t know if that’s good or bad. He’s always been strong even at his age: now I see my dad crying. He’s got a catheter: one week and everything has changed: it’s so hard.

  • Hi  Indy, that is a sad situation I can see you that you love your dad. My dad has just passed away at 97, in some ways we did not have a close relationship as my grandmother brought me up until I was 7, then I went to live with my dad, but run away 15. Later in life I became a Christian and forgave my dad and visited him more, and I went to stay with him at the end. Just afterwards I found I had prostate cancer, I had no symptoms but I asked for a PSA test which was 12 and after biopsy found the cancer was localised in my prostate. I am also on hormone therapy to shrink it before 20 sessions of radiotherapy. As a Christian I was not worried about the diagnosis as at 75 I have had a good run and do not fear the future. It is a pity that more men do not have PSA test to catch it early for better recovery prospects. Apparently a lot of men in their 80's have cancer in their prostate but die from other normal causes. I hope your family and and your dad find peace in the situation you now find yourself.

kind thoughts to you from Norinco.
