Hi my name is David and I'm 51 and I have just been diagnosed with early stages of PC, I'm seeing a specialist in Bracytherapy on Tuesday. Is there anyone who has had this treatment who can let me how you got on and also the short/long term side effects. Thanks
Hi Kevvy,
My PSA is 4.7 not sure of my Gleason score is. I'm seeing my Urologist tomorrow to see what procedure I should have. I think it would be the low dose one.
Dave
Hi Kevvy,
I'm at the Urologist today at 6pm, i think my Gleason score is 7, PSA 4.7. I will let you know how I get on.
Thanks for your replys.
Dave
Hi Dave,
I'm due at the hospital tomorrow for the Brachytherapy prostate volume study where they asses how many and where the implant pellets go, no anesthetic required but just need to switch off the modesty and dignity senses while they do rectal ultrasound with catheter (to highlight the urethra) with legs in stirrups! The implant procedure is likely to be 2 to 3 weeks later apparently. Some hospitals do the volume study and insert procedure all in one go under general anesthetic. My condition is about the same as you with Gleason 7 PSA going up and down between 4.5 and 5.4 over last 3 years, I was Gleason 6 for 2 1/2 years but had to choose an intervention procedure when it went up to Gleason 7.
Regards
Rob
Hi Rob,
Good luck for tomorrow, it sounds like we are very similar in PSA & Gleason levels. I saw 3 consultants yesterday and we all agreed Brachyatheraph was the way forward for me as well. I think I'll be having the volume study all in one hit because they didn't say I needed to come in before. It's a journey we both have to take and I'm very positive for both of us that the out come will be very good indeed for the future.
let me know how you get on.
all the best
Dave
Hi Dave
Just had the volume study, momentarily painful with the catheter and probe going in but took less than half an hour and only about 5 minutes to get the pictures with the probe, (not including the other hour waiting around in the hospital!). The radiologist mentioned that our hospital is changing to a "one shot" procedure soon, better idea to get it all done in one go whilst the patient is unconscious.
Anyway I'm now all booked in for the implants on 5th March, bit of a waiting list here.
Regards
Rob
Hi Rob,
Glad it went well, if you don't mind, can you tell me your age please.
I had my consultants appt on Wed and just got the call to get mine done on 18th March. So your getting done before me, if you feel ok and don't mind could you give me a update of how it went and how your feeling after the procedure please.
Hope to speak to you before your op but if not good luck and let me know.
all the best
Dave
Hi David,
My husband has just been diagnosed with prostate cancer with a Gleason score of 6 (3+3). It has been suggestedhe have either surgery (prostatectomy) or bracytherapy.
How did you get on ?
It would be helpful to know before hs appt with the urologist next week.
Many thanks
Caroline
