Hi, everyone,
the doctors have stopped what the call ‘active treatment’ to see how my husband responds. Today when I visited, as I do everyday, his breathing was laboured. Nurses informed and close supervision is in place. The hospital are talking about discharge to home or nursing home depending upon the outcome of the physio and OT assessment . My husband wants to come. I am in bits…..
Hello Teatowel
Sorry to read the above - I am aware of his wishes - BUT you must be strong and refuse the discharge to home as it would be unsafe and you would be unable to cope.
Do you have a Macmillan office or a "Maggie's" at your hospital? - I would be tempted to call in and tell them you need help with your husband and you don't wish him to come home as you are unable to deal with him.
Be STRONG - and although you need strength to care and look out for your husband - YOU need to be fit and there for him too.
Kind regards - Brian.

Hi Teatowel
I presume they had a multi disciplinary meeting without your input. The medics have taken upon themselves to withdraw “active “ treatment, arranged OT & Physio. What input did you have about all of this as you as next of kin should have been totally involved to allow you to say your piece .
I am so sorry not only is your husband but you too have not had a voice in the decision making .
if they are talking about nursing home . I don’t know much about English law but if he requires continuous nursing care with they accept responsibility for the payments
just checked. Continuous care in a nursing home in England is free if you qualify for NHS Continuing Healthcare (CHC), which covers all costs regardless of your assets. If your needs are less complex, you may receive Funded Nursing Care (FNC), covering only the nursing portion. Otherwise, care is means-tested by the local authority.
you need to ask these pertinent questions. of could land with bills .
another option could be a hospice where he will be cared for and given pain management as sometimes this is missed in nursing homes .
sending you hugs

Hi
Tell the consultant you want to be present at the MDM meeting it is your right . It allows you to voice your concerns and let’s be honest you know your husband better that all these medics put together.
I just don’t like them having meetings and making life changing decisions without you having any voice .
I think contacting Pals is a good idea to ensure your both receiving the support you deserve and need .
