Hello all,

I had my first Oncology meeting since Radiotherapy earlier today... My Dr was very pleased with my PSA being  at 0.025 (undetectable, her words) 3 weeks post Radiotherapy and how everything has gone since my treatment started in regards to my PSA drop pattern during HT, Chemo, and Radiotherapy,  she  said it was textbook and doesn't really get any better... Obviously I'm very happy with this, but she then went on to tell me I'm having 1 more year of Hormone Therapy (Prostap) and 6 monthly PSA tests, I expected 2 more years, and 3 monthly tests, it just doesn't seem right for Gleason 9 N1 with curative intent... I know I should be embracing this but I suppose wanting maximum treatment and close monitoring is only natural...  I'm just very surprised,  a little perplexed, and probably overthinking this, maybe?.......

All the best to all

Jay

  • Hello Jay (

    Thank you for a lovely post.

    Well that's radiotherapy ticked off and an (almost) undetectable PSA so that's two things to celebrate. Beers.

    I think the 1 year (rather than 2) on Hormone therapy has been given for 5 reasons:

    * Your PSA at the start was 44 and you are young and fit.

    * Your Gleason 9 is the low 9 (4+5) and not (5+4).

    * You have responded well to Hormone and Radiotherapy.

    I would take the 1 year and get your life back - but me being me I would ask for 3 monthly PSA's for the first 24 months after HT finishes.

    Carry on - you are doing really well.

    Best wishes - Brian.
