Hi everyone, it's been a while, but I'm finally checking back in. I have been navigating life with Stage 4 prostate cancer for the last five years, and to be honest, the fatigue has really started to take its toll.

I've decided to put myself first and apply for PIP and a Blue Badge to help make my life a bit more manageable. I've never been one to use benefits before, but I've realized it's ok to accept a helping hand. Has anyone here gone through the application process lately? I'd love to hear about your experiences or any tips you might have for a first timer.

  • Good morning

it would be worth speaking either to your cancer specialist nurse or someone at your local Maggie Centre . They can arrange someone to help fill in the forms.

the pip form is a minefield to navigate with the essential wording . You have to take it on a worst scenario day and document it.

  • Three months ago I applied for both PIP & ESA and was absolutely scarred of the form filing, so I got the CAB on my side fist then the hospice occupational health team.

I ended up not having to fill in a page of forms due to the SR1 form I was given (which is not easily got but for severe illness) but in any case I would have received help from the CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau).

I also found out that the local Age Concern will help you fill in the forms.

So the PIP is a huge form that you need a certain amount of points achieved to be successful, so you need help.

The help is much needed but many people and that means it’s a slow process, hence I sought help from many, to get the quickest reply.

    Good luck

  • Hi

As the others have said PIP form ( 40 pages Flushed) of it is best taken to a charity who will help you fill it out .

I took mine to Maggies in Sutton and a lovely bloke called Robert sorted out both forms for me ( PIP & ESA )

However you will have to do a telephone assessment for PIP , ESA is a lot easier, which in my case lasted one hour and 40 minutes , don’t let this put you off there are youtube channels that can give you tips to navigate .

I found this site very helpful ( Benefits and Work guides you can trust PIP points system) .

Make sure your well prepared when you get your call

    Good Luck al the best

  • Hello, we applied for adp (adult disability payment) in Scotland, same as PIP, I also fill in these forms for my patients as part of my job....it is really important you think of your worst day when filling in the form even if it is not how you are feeling now. In my experience, with my partners form and others who have a stage 4 diagnosis, your diagnosis is similar to my partners, there shouldnt be any phone call or face to face assessment. Diagnosis will be confirmed by your GP or Oncologist and they will take that. We are in Scotland though so unsure how it works in other parts of the country. My partners application will never be reviewed either, he is not going to get better so that seems reasonable. We found the whole process pretty straight forward but I do agree with others, ask maggies or macmillian to help with form. All the bestBlue heart
