Hi everyone, it's been a while, but I'm finally checking back in. I have been navigating life with Stage 4 prostate cancer for the last five years, and to be honest, the fatigue has really started to take its toll.

I've decided to put myself first and apply for PIP and a Blue Badge to help make my life a bit more manageable. I've never been one to use benefits before, but I've realized it's ok to accept a helping hand. Has anyone here gone through the application process lately? I'd love to hear about your experiences or any tips you might have for a first timer.

  • Good morning

it would be worth speaking either to your cancer specialist nurse or someone at your local Maggie Centre . They can arrange someone to help fill in the forms.

the pip form is a minefield to navigate with the essential wording . You have to take it on a worst scenario day and document it.

    best wishes

  • Three months ago I applied for both PIP & ESA and was absolutely scarred of the form filing, so I got the CAB on my side fist then the hospice occupational health team.

I ended up not having to fill in a page of forms due to the SR1 form I was given (which is not easily got but for severe illness) but in any case I would have received help from the CAB (Citizens Advice Bureau).

I also found out that the local Age Concern will help you fill in the forms.

So the PIP is a huge form that you need a certain amount of points achieved to be successful, so you need help.

The help is much needed but many people and that means it’s a slow process, hence I sought help from many, to get the quickest reply.

    Good luck
