As per my profile, I was diagnosed with PC in March 2024. After surgery, I am having PSA tests every two months as my score has been slowly climbing. In February and through to today I have developed a mole on my cheek that has grown at a regular rate. By mid March 2026 I was back at the doctors and she immediately put me on the 2 week cancer system for skin cancer. After sending pictures to a dermatologist, this has been confirmed as skin cancer. Both the doctor and the dermatologist stated that there are studies that have established a link between PC and skin cancer.
I hate to make such claims without offering any evidence so will just quote the following papers:
Daffodil Centre Study, 2022, British Journal of Cancer;
Systematic Review & Meta Analysis, 2020, Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology & Venereology;
Analysis of Prostate Cancer Patients, 2013, Journal of Clinical Oncology.
I am posting this in the hopes that PC sufferers will be aware of the risk and take the necessary care to use factor 50 suncream during the upcoming hot days of summer.
Hi Paul65plus1 thanks for your post. I hadn’t heard of a link, but am not surprised. Every year, my wife and I see a dermatologist and I am the one who has pre cancerous bits treated.
Best wishes, David
Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.
Hi, thank you for the information.I will definitely explore the links you provide. My husband had a melanoma on his cheek about 12 years ago. Later, about 4 years ago he was diagnosed with a carcinoma on his ear and had about third of his removed. Following his PC diagnosis in May last year I asked his oncologist if there could be a link between these cancers. He said NO. The consultant oncologist said that skin cancers are not related to PC.
I wondered because following removal of both skin cancers my husband was not offered any follow up scans or tests to explore any spread of the disease.
Hi - the link is widely accepted from further reading but like all these things not all experts have become aware. Sadly no country’s health service is known to follow melanoma cancers with a PSA test. However there are stories of people being recommended a PSA test after melanoma and that leading to a PC diagnosis.
There is indeed a link according to research as you say, the Daffodil Center states specifically (in 2022):
"New research by the Daffodil Centre has found men with a personal history of two or more melanomas are at least two times more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than men who have never been diagnosed with melanoma.
The study, published in the British Journal of Cancer, analysed data from 96,548 Australian men from the Sax Institute’s 45 and Up Study. They found a 20-40% increased risk of prostate cancer diagnosis in men with a history of a melanoma diagnosis compared to those without."
Interesting, thanks for making us aware of this.
