Hi everyone,

thank you so much for your kind words and support.  My husband is still receiving treatment but for how much longer remains to be seen. Doctors are talking about seeing how he responds over the next few days. If he continues to go up and down, by that I mean ok one day and spikes in temperature the next, they plan to stop treatment and make plans for palliative care at home. I am praying that he can make it home even for a day or two, so long as he is aware of being home. After I had a bit of a breakdown at the hospital today they agreed to give him pain meds every four hours without him having to ask. Two hourly top up if he needs them. They were expecting him to ask for meds even though he has not got the strength to press the call button. The matron admitted that even if he were to call the nurses get busy and may forget to give him the meds. Having it written on his notes as routine means he should get what he needs regularly avoiding breakthrough pain. please pray, if you believe, for him to make it home before the final whistle blows. xx

  • Hello

Thank you for the update and taking the time to do this at this point.

You are both in my prayers and I hope your husband will be able to return home to spend some time with you.

My best wishes go to you both and my thanks to all who are looking out for you both.

    Kind regards - Brian.

  • Thank you for being there for us. Your kindness and support is in measure able. I know my husband would be so comforted to know that you are here for us. God bless you

  • Hello Teatowel

  • My thoughts are with you both Pray

  • Good evening Teatowel I'm sorry to read about your husband and I do hope he can come home and it is such a pity you have to have a break down to get them to listen to you.

    Take care Sheena

  • My deep sympathy.

Been in pretty much same situation with my wife 8 years ago. I have to say that despite the hospital's need for the bed going home did not prove a good option for either of us. Promised care, medical and social, never really happened.

The last few words of  "I am praying that he can make it home even for a day or two, so long as he is aware of being home." are crucial. Pain relief at home is unlikely to be as effective as in even a busy hospital.

Get any proposed palliative care at home in writing and press for it to be delivered if that is your choice.

    Good luck, Dave

  • Hi Johnam,

thank you for your interest and support. I feel as though I am living in two different worlds at the same time. Home, dog walking, cleaning, washing etc., and hospital visits every day. When at home I dread the thought of having to go to the hospital and when at the hospital with my husband I dread having to come home without him. The morning is the worst, I get up and feel lightheaded and dizzy trying to work if all this is really happening. I want my husband to come home but I don’t want him to be in pain and being uncomfortable. The bed the OT arranged for him at home is too small and uncomfortable for him to feel relaxed in. Community care is not very good in our area, hence he became so unwell that I had to call emergency services to get help and treatment for him, no one, other than other wives, can have any idea of the struggles, anxiety and stress we experience every day, simply trying to get the help our partners need, xxx

  • Thank you for your kindness and supportive words. I have told Doctors that I don’t think home will be a good place for my husband. He wants to come home but I worry about the level and reliability of health care, pain management etc., he would get at home. Community care doesn’t work for seriously unwell people…..in my experience hence he is back in hospital.
