I am 59 and had my prostatectomy on 28th Aug 2025, My pathology was Gleason 4+4 T3b but surgical margins were clear. 6 weeks post op my PSA was 0.78 at 12 weeks it was 0.85. I am now on 6 month active surveillance so I should be good but I find I think about it all the time. I guess I'm not the only one, right?

  • Hello

Welcome to the Macmillan Online Prostate Group.

No you are right - you aren't the only one who thinks about it all the time. Surgery to remove the prostate is major surgery and not only can it leave you with life changing side effects there is no guarantee that it will get rid of the cancer and it's possible that you will need further treatment down the line.

As you say - your PSA is rising slightly - yes you are right to think about it.

At least here you are with a group of like minded folk who are in various stages of their journey - if you click on a user name or avatar - if someone has completed their profile you can see where they are on their personal journey - try mine!

We are all happy to share information and help where we can.

    Welcome aboard.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • You may become comfortable with the PC situation you are in but you may be thinking about it for years, but a talking therapy would help you.

You are young and it’s such an upheaval becoming a long term patient.

I have incurable PC and on some days it’s everything but other days it’s nothing. I’ve have 3.5 years of acclimatising to the life I have so I’m knee deep in thoughts about how best I can enjoy each day, even when I’m in bed all day, which happens sometimes.

So stop thinking about why you’re thinking about PC all day every day and think more about how best to live your day in your new normal.

    Best of luck
