Infection and hormone therapy.

Hi All.

Another question regarding my Dad.

Aged 78 stage 4 Gleason 4+5.

Been on apalutamide for 10 weeks and had 2 prostap injections.

He started with what the GP diagnosed as a chest infection last Monday. Was struggling to breathe and chest pain especially in the night. Had antibiotics and steroids which he’s now finished but still feels poorly. So tired, weak and no energy. His temperature is still up and down.

I’m just wondering if this is a chest infection or could be side effects from the hormone therapy.

  • I have been on the Prostap and Apalutamide for many months with no such side effects.

Sounds more like a separate issue completely to me but I suppose we all look to associate any malady with our medication and diagnosis.

Best to get back to the gap I think.

  • Good morning  . I’m sure your GP understands that blood clots in the lungs are known to be associated with cancer (there’s a notice in my hospital which says it can affect up to 1 in 5 people).

I’m G9 and was one of those just over a year ago. I’d had a sharp pain towards the side of my back a few times over a few days. Then very uncomfortable (sweat dripping off my nose) pain in my side / back for maybe an hour in the night, only very shallow breaths possible when breathing in and I coughed up a small amount of blood. Next day my GP sent me straight to hospital and, after a CT, a pulmonary embolism was diagnosed. I was started on anti-coagulants there and then. No issues since. Might be worth running a possible PE past 111 or your GP as well?

I also have a history of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, 5 known instances needling treatment over maybe the last 15 years, which my oncologist thought could be involved.
