Today is 6 weeks since LH's consultant appointment when he was told that his TURP should be in about 6 weeks.
Three weeks ago he had a phone call from radiology trying to make an appointment for his planning meeting. When he said that he was waiting for a TURP they seemed confused and could not find anything about it and they said they would 'speak to someone and phone back' They didn't . I was worried that e wasn't on the list so rang urology. He was on the list and a P2 priority which, of course, I looked up. Apparently it means that he should be treated within 4 weeks of being put on the list.
Yesterday I decided that enough was enough and, despite LH's protests and saying 'it won't do any good' I rang urology nurse. She gave me a number and name to ask for and, although the phone was answered by a receptionist who said he would pass a message on, I firmly but politely made it clear that this was not acceptable. I made it clear that I knew what P2 meant and that that this was delaying his radiotherapy.
Yesterday afternoon he received a call with a date of 15th March and by the end of the afternoon he had an appointment for his pre op assessment. LH thinks it was a coincidence; I think not

Thanks Brian. Not sure yet whether he will be having a general or a spinal block. How did you find the recovery period? The consultant told him that he will probably be sent home the same day and will have to go back the next day to have the catheter removed which seems odd. Not had anything in writing about the surgery date which is making me jumpy. The woman on the phone told LH that they didn't know the time yet and would have to let him know but he should get it all in writing. Seems odd it's on a Sunday too ..... but msybe I am overthinking it knowing me!
Hello Dogs4me
I had a pre-op the week before the TURP. I then had to return the day before the TURP for a blood group match.
I was told I would be in hospital at least overnight, possibly 2 nights.
On the day of the TURP (Friday) I checked in at 7.30 - did all the paperwork, saw the surgeon and anaesthetist and walked down to theatre at 9.30. TURP done and back on the ward for 11.30 and feeling good. Was able to walk by about 4pm but was kept in overnight.
Catheter removed about 6.00am and once I could pass 750ml of urine and was not retaining too much in my bladder I was free to go home - discharged 1.30 Saturday afternoon.
I was told no work or heavy lifting for 4 weeks, but I am Self Employed, so back behind my desk Tuesday. No adverse effects at all, however I had had a catheter for 10 months so I had to learn to wee again!!
I hope this helps - happy to answer any questions.
Kind regards-Brian.
