Hi all, I have recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer, thankfully for now im gleason 6 and decided to go on active surveillance (hopefully the right choice) I have no symptoms at present and on no medication, I drive a fire appliance, a motorhome, a car and ride motorcycles, will my diagnosis affect me at all regarding my licence? And also my car insurance has just come up for renewal do I have to notify them. Im struggling to find the right answer and don't want to start mentioning it to insurers if i don't have to.
Many thanks ..
On active surveillance and a Gleason 6 seems a good fit if you are happy with the decision.
Insurance and fitness to drive.
It’s an interesting question. Some insurers will just follow government standard DVLA noticeable illness. While others might ask about more general medical information. In the end you have to answer truthfully. Or if you don’t want to just decline and seek alternative insurance. For personal use ie car this site can be used.

For commercial I would think the employer would need to be notified. Then they would make a decision.
edit
Cancer per se is not a notifiable disease. It must also affect your driving. Or if the treatment drugs etc have indicated it might.
It never crossed our minds to mention it to car insurance companies! I did, though, not permit my husband to drive himself to the hospital for the 20 sessions of radiotherapy. He was very tired and had enough to contend with without struggling in winter along country roads, through heavy traffic as he crossed Leicester and then queue forever just to enter the hospital car park.
Of course, we declared it to the travel insurance company and followed some sound financial advice from our financial advisor!
Hello Wardster1
You are not the first person to ask this question. Cancers are all grouped together by the DVLA and the answer is in this link:

Thanks for the reply Brian and it's cleared things up regarding the licence part but I cant seem to find out if i need to inform my car insurance. I just don't want to open a can of worms if it's not necessary we all know what insurance is like. As I say at present I don't have any symptoms or medication that efforts my driving.
Thanks again
Hello Wardster1
Now I've not been asked the insurance question before. Here's our advice regarding this:
Insurance-and-cancer/types-of-insurance.
Strang but It's made me look at my personal policy and it states:
*You need to advise us if you have been told by medical professionals not to drive or you have an illness or medication which impacts your ability to drive"
That's a broad statement - a type of "cover all" situations. So having read that I am happy that my diagnosis and medication has no impact on my driving.
You could of course check with your insurance Company!1
I hope that helps.
Best wishes.- Brian.

Here is the rub. Insurance doesn’t like to pay out. If they can find an out clause they will use it.
Under the Equalities Act 2010 Insurance should not refuse cover or increase premiums for medical conditions that do not increase risk.
Each insurance company may have different requirements. This is mine
Any medical or physical condition or disability that you or any named drivers need to tell the DVLA/DVLANI about, including any you haven’t told them about yet.
So I would not need to inform them even at renewal. You should be able to find your company requirements in the policy document, not your insurance policy. The document usually has well over 100 pages of detail.
