Hi all, I have recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer, thankfully for now im gleason 6 and decided to go on active surveillance (hopefully the right choice) I have no symptoms at present and on no medication, I drive a fire appliance, a motorhome, a car and ride motorcycles, will my diagnosis affect me at all regarding my licence?  And also my car insurance has just come up for renewal do I have to notify them. Im struggling to find the right answer and don't want to start mentioning it to insurers if i don't have to.

Many thanks ..

  • On active surveillance and a Gleason 6 seems a good fit if you are happy with the decision.

    Insurance and fitness to drive.
It’s an interesting question. Some insurers will just follow government standard DVLA noticeable illness. While others might ask about more general medical information. In the end you have to answer truthfully. Or if you don’t want to just decline and seek alternative insurance. For personal use ie car this site can be used.

For commercial I would think the employer would need to be notified. Then they would make a decision.

    edit

Cancer per se is not a notifiable disease. It must also affect your driving. Or if the treatment drugs etc have indicated it might.

  • It never crossed our minds to mention it to car insurance companies! I did, though, not permit my husband to drive himself to the hospital for the 20 sessions of radiotherapy. He was very tired and had enough to contend with without struggling in winter along country roads, through heavy traffic as he crossed  Leicester and then queue forever just to enter the hospital car park.

Of course, we declared it to the travel insurance company and followed some sound financial advice from our financial advisor!
