Ok, after 19 fractions of RT, last one tommorow, all going semmingly well and I feel fine, had blood test yesterday, and got called tonight, to go to A&E immediately, and get an IV for pottasium, also on HT, looking around the Internet, which isn't always the best thing I know, it suggests prolonged enemas can cause this, anyone else have any experience of this
Hello Aubutied1c171
Thank you for your post.
I've not read or had anyone else state the lack of potassium in their body is due entirely from the enemas given for radiotherapy.
I know from very personal experience it can be caused by CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease) and I am also aware that diarrhea or being sick on a regular basis can also cause the problem.
At least you have a good team looking after you and they have got you sorted. Thank you for bring up this potential issue.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi Aubtied1c171
By now you will have had your last fraction & the next few days will seem a bit odd without the daily trip to hospital, but you will soon relish not having to go in.
I'm not medically trained and haven't seen this mentioned in other posts before but I would have thought that the internet may be referring to normal enemas whereas the ones given for RT are micro enemas so I believe are considered milder.
The main thing is that it's been picked up on & they got you sorted.
Best Wishes
Brian
Hi Buzzers, thanks, you may be correct and I am Possibly jumping to the incorrect conclusion, fortunately the hospital has made my oncologist aware and I see him in a month's time, however it's something that we need to get to the bottom of, in terms of what's causing it, will update when I know more, my last fraction has been moved to Monday, was so looking forward to ringing that bell today....
Think It's worth updating this, although the enamas and diarrhea I had may have been a minor factor, I am also on blood pressure medication, one of which being indapamide, which can cause pottasium issues, since stopping taking this specific medication my pottasium levels have stabilised, in general 2 weeks after finishing RT, I have no side affects other than multiple night time toilet visits, which to a lesser degree I've been having for quite a long time anyway, so, so far so good......
