Hi All, how are you ?
I've not been on here for a while apologises. so I have come to the end of my 2 year stint on the hormone injection and I cant be more happier. It not something that I cant say I enjoyed personally the side effects are different for everyone. Just before for the end of December I had my regular PSA blood test and my level had risen, so i was booked in for a testosterone and psa again, but its was still up. I was booked in for a PET scan before Christmas and have been waiting for the result urgently ever since. I still haven't heard about the result but today I was given an appointment for the end January finally. it's been a bit of a stressful time as you can imaging over Christmas and new year not knowing if the cancer has come back or not, but trying my hardest to be positive. Fingers crossed.
Hello Acme70
To give you a decent answer we need your PSA test history and confirmation if you have had Radiotherapy to the Prostate. (You can always add these to your profile so you have a record - on your home page click on the chair icon - top right, then "profile" and then "edit". Once you have written something, don't forget to save it.) You can read a profile by clicking on a members name or avatar.
The 2 main reasons for a rise in PSA after coming off Hormone Therapy are:
* The cancer is back - PET Scan to check this.
* PSA "bounce" - something that can happen after radiotherapy and is normally a rise of +2 or +3.
I hope the above helps.
Best wishes - Brian.

Ok got it.
Probably can't read too much into that.
Now HT stopped i PSA could well increase slightly so u have to look at PSA over the next year.
Hopefully u can have a regular PSA test for the next year just to monitor.
As long as it doesn't show an upward trend hopefully ok.
Best wishes
Steve
Hello Acme70
Thanks for the reply. Perfect timing for PSA Bounce, 18 months after the end of RT. I would think there's nothing to worry about and would think your scan will be fine.
The normal criteria for action after RT are:
* 3 PSA rises in a row or
* A rise of +2 or more.
I hope this helps.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi All,
Hope youre all well. so since my last visit here I had my results back and was told pelvic area looked clear but something on the scan showed up by the right side near my heart, but there not sure what is was. They gave me a blood test and said they will be intouch. 2 weeks later a had a phone call form the hospital to say my PSA had risen from 0.4 to 3.2 and they werent happy with it and requested another PMSA PET scan, I had the scan a week later and last Friday i had the result back and was told unfortunaley the cancer has come back and also spread and I have stage 4 prostate cancer.
You can imagine how i felt espicially when the 1st scan seemed so promising. Clearly once i came off the hormone injection the activity restarted. So im back on the meds, hormaone injection in 2 weeks then back to the hospital to talk about the next steps. Trying to keep postive and take one step at a time.
