Hello everyone
it’s me again . I’ve just looked on the HS App and found an appointment for this Thursday at the urology department to discuss the biopsy findings and treatment plan.
i spoke to the nurse yesterday, before an appointment was made, and she confirmed that the cancer hasn’t spread. Great news. She said my husband will be discussed at the MDT today and it’s likely he’ll start hormone tablets immediately for 6 months and then start radiation.
He’s had an MRI, Biopsy and bone scan but I’ve seen on here that a number of people are having or have had a PET scan.
Questions
Shouid my husband be offered a PET scan?
Should he be seeing an oncologist?
will they offer the best treatment or the easiest and cheapest for them?
Is is usual to have 6 months of hormone treatment before radiation? I’ve seen some people on triple therapy.
i suppose the nurse was offering an opinion about expected treatment and that might change after the MDT meeting.
Nurse said they’re looking at curative treatment.
I just want to be armed with the right information. My husband uses me like a secretary
Can I ask were it’s spread to if you don’t mind me asking , I’m looking after my dad who’s had spread to hip and spine
mri scan tomorrow and maybe hospital admission we think he has or is getting spinal compression as he’s so ill with this ! :(
pray for my dad please
I will pray for your dad. It’s a terrible thing to go through. So much stress, upset , tears and anxiety.
We are early days with this and he hasn’t started his treatment yet but hopefully he will start later this week.
We feel so lucky (touch wood) that we’ve been told that it hasn’t spread. We were so worried as the urologist said that although the MRI appeared to show no spread he expected it would have spread to the bones. So unhelpful and apparently an unnecessary statement.
Anyway, like I said, we’re lucky so far that it hasn’t spread. I feel for you and wish you and your family the very best. We have a lovely daughter who hides her feelings but I see the fear at times.
How old is your dad? Is it just you and him? Xx
Dad is 68 and was a very very fit man no smoking no drinking and a very good weight ! I’ve seen that all go down hill unfortunately, hes been in bed for about 13 weeks and refused to pick up his phone rip letters up and pretend eveything is ok !! Well it’s to late now I really hope they admit him tomorrow honestly because he’s not getting better at home he’s declining fast
Hello Babychamshine613e2e
Wow - so many questions - let's work through them.
* The MDT team will have his results - there will be a urologist and an oncologist present. They will "advise" what they think is the best treatment - you don't have to accept it - you have choices.
* The bone scan and MRI show no spread, therefor a PET scan isn't needed. The cancer is contained within the prostate.
* They will offer the best treatment based on his results - he may see an oncologist depending on what treatments are offered and his choice. triplet therapy is given when the cancer has left the prostate and gone "walkabout".
* If the cancer is contained in the Prostate - which they say it is he could be offered surgery to remove, HT/RT or brachytherapy. (The latter isn't offered everywhere as not every health authority can do it - but you can have it in Leeds). here's a link so you can read about it Brachytherapy-for-prostate-cancer.
As we are all different at the meeting try and be there with your husband as 4 ears are better than 2 - and ask for a copy of the meeting notes. You may want to ask other questions so here's a list for you:
Questions-to-ask-your-healthcare-team.
I hope this helps - anything else just ask.
Do let us know how you get on.
Best wishes - Brian.
