9 months after finishing hormone therapy  .still no testosterone tired all the time. No libido and many other things fed-up  .there is no chance my oncologist will give testosterone supplements. Any ideas would be welcome

  • Hello

I have replied to your post so that it gets back to the top of page one and I hope you get some replies.

My honest answer is to take the matter up with your own GP, there is an issue somewhere and it looks like it may well be caused by something other than the Hormone Therapy as this finished 9 months ago.

Please do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hello

There was a similar thread a few months ago and you can read it on this link.

     Testosterone

By finishing HT do you mean that you had your last injection or tablets 9 months ago or was that when your cover should got out of the system?

There are many factors which can influence the time it takes to recover testosterone after finishing hormone therapy including:

Age - it can take longer for older men.

Duration of HT- the longer you have been on it the longer it can take to recover.

Type of HT- it can take longer to recover from the injected type compared to tablets such as bicalutamide and relugolix.

Generally recovery can take anywhere between 3 months and 24 months but some men never fully regain previous treatment levels.

Looking after your penile health both during and after treatment can be beneficial in speeding up functionality.

If you have had radiotherapy then the guidelines are that the PSA should remain below 2. Don't worry if there is a small PSA rise as your body recovers.

The standard response for the fatigue is exercise.

Your doctor should be able to give you more tailored advice based on your own situation and also might be able to offer support for the fatigue in the form of exercise groups and ED issues if you have them.

Do you have a Maggie's near you? They are a support group for cancer patients and their families and have a wealth of information. Also don't forget that Macmillan have a support line 0808 808 00 00.

    1. Thanks brian hopefully things will improve intime
  • I've had 6 month of hormone therapy (Prostap) and I had a blood test after 2 months and my testosterone level was 0.7 (I believe the normal level is low / mid teens). I had RT in month 4 and 2 consultations with the specialist 6 and 12 weeks later.

I was told that the whatever the duration for your HT, it would take 50% longer for the side effects to wear off. I had my first jab in November last year and 9 months later things were virtually normal. During my treatment I spoke to 2 specialists about recovering testosterone levels and they both advised against anything that might artificially raise the level. My last telecon was end June and the specialist said if it didn't feel like testtoserone was recovering they would look at it at the beginning of next year (so about 14 months after treatment started)

  • Hello

I think this one is very much down to the individual and how their body reacts to treatment.

I completed 3 years HT in December 2024 and by early February 2025 my testosterone was back with a vengeance - I didn't need a testosterone test to tell it was back Innocent. Sadly I started back on HT in September 2025 and by late October it was back down to 0.7 and I know it's gone Angry!!

I know I have strange readings with both my PSA (182 on diagnosis and no spread!) and my testosterone but it just shows how this cancer affects us all in different ways.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Hi

I think I am in a similar situation to you with the lack of libido and testosterone although I don't suffer with tiredness. I don't know your age but I'm a couple of weeks off being seventy seven.

I had my last Prostap jab on the 23rd October 2024 which was the usual three month version. I requested and was prescribed Tadalafil 5mg daily back in May this year (2025) on the advice of friends on this forum. After four or five months this has had some effect but it's certainly not a significant improvement on the ED.

I live in the hope that things will get better, maybe even a worthwhile Christmas present Wink. I'll just keep taking the tablets.

If you are only nine months since your last HT jab I doubt you will have to be patient like me.
