Hi,would anyone know how long it takes for your testosterone levels to return fully I finished rt 9 weeks ago and still haven’t returned I was on 6 months ht before my rt started thanks in advance Paul

  • Hello Paul.

Andy62 has just posted this bit of information on another thread.

It takes a while for Testosterone to start returning - 9 months for me after 2 years on HT (measured from the point you would have had the next injection if you hadn't stopped). Once it starts returning, it usually does so very quickly, in 2-3 months. It's useful to have Testosterone level included with PSA tests while you are recovering from HT, so you know where you've got to. Also, if you still have your prostate, you expect your PSA to rise with about a 3 month lag behind your Testosterone recovering.

It also depends on what type of hormone therapy you were on. If it was just tablets like Bicalutamide then recovery of testosterone levels tends to be faster compared to the injection/implant.

  • Hi !

How long before radiation did you start your 6 month hormone therapy? Anyway, your Testosterone will not start climbing before the hormone therapy is out of your body and the body can start to adjust to the fact that there is no more suppression of Testosterone.

There are also some theories that it might take the same amount of time for the Testosterone to come back ’to normal ’ as you’ve been on hormone therapy.

Anyway, look into Alwayshope’s answer because she always give very valuable input. But, there is not one straight answer to your question is it’s very individual, like hormone therapy and side effects.

    Best wishes - Ulf

  • Hi I started my hormone therapy in march and started rt end of August for 20 fractions take care Paul

  • Hi Paul1963,

I was on HT for 9 months & had my last 3 monthly Decapeptyl injection on the 12th Dec 2023 (RT finished mid October).  I was advised that the effects of the final  injection would gradually start wearing off after the 3 months so mid March onwards.  In my case I started having erections again from mid April with the libido following on 3 or 4 weeks later.

You don't mention when you had your last HT or what period it covered, but hopefully it won't be too much longer.

    Best Wishes
