My husband is registered on the NHS app so can see all his GP records. I understand you can also see your hospital record/test results in the same way. Does anyone know how you do this please as we are going round in circles. We asked at the GP and they say the hospital have to do it. We then asked our oncology nurse and she said the GP has to do it. Thank you

  • I just log into my NHS acct. using e-mail address then password and I'm straight through and I choose what to look at. My husbands Drs. surgery ( different to mine ) wasn't as easy. Suggest you try my way 1st and if no joy contact GP surgery. Keep pushing them - we had to .

    Wishing you well

  • We can see gp records but not hospital records

  • I got all my hospitals records in writing and discs, through my oncologists secretary and my, My Pathway App,  you can ask your consultant when you see them, they have to release your records to you by law, or try the hospital records office. It's a slow process and may take a  couple of months.

  • Thank you. We just want to be able to access his latest blood test results not see his whole records

  •   I have the NHS app and can access most of my GP's records but the only hospital records are the letters sent from hospitals to the GP.

It would be good to have access to your hospital records, similar to the GP records.

If they all used the same systems maybe it could be possible.  But different hospital authorities can't access other authorities.

    How crazy is that!

  • Totally crazy especially when you can't find out your blood results because one nurse is off sick and the other on leave

  • You can't get the staff these days!

Oh, and don't forget the NHS is broken, according to the government (no political party named).  But it's not their fault... allegedly!!!

  • Hi  , unfortunately this is a bit of a postcode lottery.  Each Trust is able to decide how connected the services are and in some areas (my own being Hampshire) just are not joined up yet.  In my own case I can see all GP records and recently some letters from Oncology are appearing but all other hospital records aren’t available and pathology tests don’t show.  I did raise an issue with PALS and after some investigation was told that services were being added all the time.  David

  • Hi Shar,

think it depends on your hospital trust.  I'm with the Churchill hospital in Oxford and about 2 years ago they opened up a web portal (it was only cancer and haematology when I signed up).  Through that you can see all you hospital results and letters etc.

The NHS App seems to only link to GP data so they don't report test results if they are done at the hospital.

  • Hi Shar

We have the exact same problem! We are told it is because the hospital system and the GP system do not ‘talk’ to each other! When we saw the oncologist a few weeks ago he told us he is having the same problem with his own test results.

That said, my husband has his blood taken at our local surgery. He asks the phlebotomist to ask for results to be reported to the GP. This works about 75% of the time. Getting the results on the times it does not work can only be likened to getting hold of state secrets!

I have my own theory! It is about the medical profession wielding power over their patients!

I gather that the Government is trying to deal with this problem but the big question is…..when will patients see the improvement?

we have been promised a new hospital in this area since about 2001 . It’s been delayed yet again, probably starting 2030 at the earliest now!!!
