Catheter bags

Hi,

had my davinci surgery 2 days ago and am back home resting up. All went well and apart from feeling tired and sore, everything is surprisingly ok. I had issues with my first night with a night bag, though. They are 2l single use ones with no valve, so can’t be emptied. By about 1 am the bag was 3/4 full. By 4 it was like a balloon and the leg bag was full too. So I disconnected everything and then was up every hour or so emptying the leg bag. Anyone else had this issue?

I will probably just switch to a second night bag at 2am-3am tonight if it happens again and have requested extra bags from the GP. Not sure if I'm just over hydrating (I’m thirsty a lot of the time) or if it’s an issue or just potentially normal.

Cheers

  • Hi Fz2p0

I can't answer your question as I had RT & HT, but this reply will bump your question back to the top of the pile & will hopefully be answered shortly by someone who went down the surgery route.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

    Brian

  • You’re not alone! My husband is 4 days post da vinci op, and his 2L night bag is full by 2am. Fortunately his night bags do have a valve so we can get up and empty it. It may be worth speaking to the hospital / your GP or even looking on Amazon to see if you can get some night bags with a valve. My husband is super thirsty too and drinking 2-3 litres of water a day. Hope your recovery continues to go well!

  • Hello

I have some night bags with a tap spare. If you want to send me a private message with your details - don't put them up in this thread (my private message box is open) I can theow some in the post 1st class for you tomorrow morning if that helps.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • Thanks so much for the offer! I have ordered some and they should be delivered in the next day or two, so I’m good right up until catheter removal now. Thanks again though, that’s really kind!!
