Hello,
I wondered if anyone could help as I am very confused with my dad's diagnosis. He says he has locally advanced prostate cancer stage 4 a and b. I don't understand the a and b, shouldn't it be one or the other and if it is locally advanced surely it can't be b?
Is advanced stage 4b?
I would also like to ask if anyone is aware you can ask for braccythetapy as a boost for this stage.
Any help very gratefully received.
Unbelievably I have 4G at the moment high on my mountain having a snack. If you have any questions I’ll reply later. AW
Ah. Just noticed staging at 4a/b. I think BBoost is not applicable in this case. AW

Ah - I read the initial post showing Stage 4 a/b but then I see that Rachel has re-checked the diagnosis as T3 a: so her dad is certainly a contender for BBoost. That’ll teach me not to read the whole thread before replying!
Thanks for taking the time to read and no rush for any reply. I spoke to a nurse, who couldn't really comment on braccytherapy boosts, without full knowledge of the case. I am going to try to speak to a consultant with my dad to try and understand why this isn't being offered. Then we can potentially look at moving hospital etc. Just wondered if you might know of any reason that it wouldn't be offered.
Thanks again
I was a very similar diagnosis T3b NO MO I have had Brachytherapy and just finished 20 sessions of Radiotherapy covering lymph nodes although nothing detected in them the expressed aim was a full cure just waiting to get tested with every hope I think it could well be the same for your Dad!
Hi, brilliant, sounds really optimistic. So you had full bracchtherapy or just a boost? Can I ask what your gleason score was, my dad's is 9, not sure if this may be a reason he isn't being offered.
My Gleason was 9 same as your Dad, I had High Dose Rate Brachytherapy boost at Leeds St. James end of November not sure this is available everywhere? A friend of mine who works in cancer care said this sort of targeted treatment is the best you can get. My full details to date are on my profile David
