Hi guys. My hubby has just had his 3 month call  from hospital. He started on enzalutamide  ( along side his zoladex  inplant) about 6months ago as his psa was rising ,  now gone from 12 to 59 in 3 months. He's t3 t3b n1m1 and been in a lot of back and rib pain recently.  Doc has booked him in for more scans and checkup in 6 weeks. I'm  really struggling now. I know there is more treatment and radio has been mentioned,  so.... help please guys.

  • Hello  . I understand what you are going through as we have also been undergoing investigation for yet another recurrence and progression. My husband had a PSMA PET scan on Tuesday - this is a special scan which picks up even very small mets and helps with deciding what kind of treatment is most suitable so it is worth asking if this would be available to your husband. It is difficult to keep pulling yourself up but we have no option. It looks as if my husband has developed a bone met in the femur (he has been having leg and hip pain) so off we go again for targeted radiotherapy which should sort it out. It is also being suggested that he has low dose chemotherapy for additional lymph node mets which have popped up, but Lutetium 177 has also been mooted. No matter what, there is a plan.

I am glad you have someone to chat to, you need to unload at times for your own sanity.

  • Thanks for reply.. scans are being booked so we will soon know what is happening and how to move forward. He's been in pain for a little while now, yesterday could just about get home and straight to bed for an hour, so really happy that they are taking it seriously. Just a bit shocked about the psa rise as I don't know why.. my bestie has knowledge on cancer so she can soon talk me down.

  • The cancer can find a way of getting round the hormone therapy in odd spots which then need a different strategy to deal with them. If it is in just a couple of places then they target those spots but if it is in many places they can also try a more systemic approach with something like chemotherapy. If your husband is still showing low testosterone levels then they usually continue with the hormone injections because it is still doing some good. The radiotherapy can reduce pain levels but my husband has been given Fentanyl patches in the meantime. Speak to your doctor and they should be able to make your husband more comfortable.
