I am told to drink at least 2 litres of water a day, gulp that's a lot, I'm a guy that was anyone's after two pints of beer, I can manage 1.5 litres and that's it.
Two litres of water is just over 4.5 pints, I read on one NHS regional websites that they recommend 5 to 8 pints of water a day's, phew I would have the stuff coming out of my ears drinking that much, does anyone else have problems drinking a lot of any type of fluid?
Hello Safeways . It's the nerd here. The latest guidelines for how much you should drink is based on your body weight so the following formula should be used-
Body weight in kg x 0.035
So for a man of 80kg this is 2.8 litres.
In the UK 1 litre is equivalent to 1.76 imperial pints so 2.8 litres is the equivalent of 4.93 English pints.
Filtered water is better than tap water as it takes out a lot of the impurities. Don't forget that tea and coffee count towards the total and herbal infusions can help you reduce the caffeine content as can opting for caffeine free versions. Be careful with flavoured waters, fruit juices and squashes because they can be high in sugar.
Why not try having a glass of water before each meal. This will have 2 benefits - firstly it helps to digest the meal and second it tends to fill you up so that you want to eat less and will help to keep the midriff spread down if you are on hormone therapy.
Hi Safeways,
I struggled at first to drink 2 litres of water a day, but gradually built up to that (& a bit more). My husband helped me by filling an empty 1 ltr bottle of whiskey with water which was then kept in the fridge & filled again during the day (he had to drink the original contents beforehand but said he would sacrifice himself lol).
I found that a large water glass was about 1/3rd ltr & started drinking as soon as I woke up & aimed to drink 4 or 5 glasses by lunchtime (water not whiskey ) so that it was less onerous for the remainder of the day & meant I was having to get up at night for a pee less frequently. There were occasional mugs of decaf tea in between as well.
Best Wishes
Brian
Hi Safeways .
I drink at least three litres every day. I do have coffee in the morning but no alcohol and caffeine free tea and water for the rest of the day. I drink a lot in the morning less in the afternoon and nothing at all after 7 pm. I never have to get up in the night but do make a lot of trips to the bathroom during the day!
I hope that helps.
I have just finished my second week of radiotherapy now, most of the other guys have to drink 300mm before treatment.
My session starts in the early afternoon, but I'm different I have to drink just over a litre! and then wait an hour, but sometimes that wait can extend to 2.5 hours. If I tell the nurses I'm going to pee myself they tell me to go and let a small amount go, which I can do, they then give me a not to small beaker of water to drink telling me to hang on with a smile.
