said no more laxatives l (had two satchets movicol) and take in samples when he can eventually go.  Said will arrange sigmoidoscopy

loads bowel wind .  I’m so worried

  • Hello  . I sympathise with your husband as I have the same with mine as a result of the hormone therapy. If he is not allowed any more laxatives then you are left with diet and stool softeners such as DulcoEase. Two foods which can promote a bowel movement for my husband are 2 kiwi fruits a day and pineapple. Also a greener banana. I also try and include high fibre foods such as porridge. Probiotics in the form of yoghurt drinks, tablets but more especially Greek yoghurt can help to rebalance the gut and promote more regular bowel movements. Broccoli is good for you but it can produce a lot of wind. One of the best things to do is to increase fluid intake and try and get more exercise.

  • He is eating more but only passing tmi wet farts.  He’s asleep and I’m in pieces .  Scared thinking it’s not just prostate cancer he has .
he doesn’t get radiotherapy until January.  He initially had diarroeh and  then ended up with this.  He thinks they mentioned inflammation during his two trips to A and

  • It sounds as if his digestive system has gone out of balance. The wet farts can result as a build up of liquid which has to find a way past the blockage. The one thing your husband must not do is strain. Your job is to try and get the gut back into balance with plenty of fruit and veg, wholemeal foods, beans and pulses plus the probiotics. You could try going to the pharmacy and asking their advice plus try Fybogel or DulcoEase which are both gentle stool softeners.

If it was anything besides prostate cancer then they would have picked it up during all the scans and tests he recently had.

  • Hi  , just a thought is he drinking enough water? David

  • I’ve just rang oncology emergency number even though its meant for those  with red card.  Hospital seems to think it’s the diarrhea he had which has inflamed all his intestines .  Might be c dif.  Says only bland food and glass water every hour.  Must try and get samples checked even if only little mush.  If samples and sigmoidoscopy show nothing then more investigation might be needed.  Seem to think nothing to go with prostate cancer treatment .  Nagging him to drink .  Said to get buscopan to help cramps pain  .

    thanks everyone

  • C diff. can be highly contagious so be extra careful with hygiene. Soap and water rather than hand gel unless you are out and have no alternative. It is important to try and get the stool sample tested. Be careful around children. I have attached a link to diet which is similar to what I said earlier about probiotics, fluids but also it recommends reducing dairy and caffeine.
