Hi, Just wondered if any long term catheter uses had any recommendations for trousers? My dad has had one now for a couple of months, for comfort reasons he prefers using a longer pipe so it goes quite far down his leg so he’s unable to wear shorts which has been abit touch on warmer days especially as he’s experiencing a lot of hot flushes as a result of treatment! All he can wear at the moments wide leg joggers, does anyone have any recommendations on wide leg trousers or some thin light weight trousers that would be discreet? He is trying to keep fit by walking but is very paranoid about the catheter. Thanks in advance
Hi Zoey88 .
I have no personal knowledge but have brought the thread to the top in the hope that you get a response from someone. What I did do was type into the search engine 'trousers for catheters men uk' and a well known on line shopping platform came up with a range of suggestions. A selection of specialist organisations like for dementia also had recommendations. Also my suggestion could be cargo trousers which tend to be wider legged with elasticated waist and are a bit smarter than joggers.
Hello Zoey88
I had a catheter for 10 months although I used the short above the knee pipe and bag most of the time. I did have the longer pipe for one month but found it harder for me to cope with.
For ease of dressing and comfort I found on a well known shopping site named after a south American river some lose fitting trousers under "men's rugby trousers" (I have just looked and there they are!!) £ 16.00 a pair which I thought were great value. They are so comfortable I still wear them post catheter.
I hope this helps - if I can do anything else for you - just give me a shout.
Best wishes - Brian.

Hi Zoe
How about walking trousers from somewhere like Decathlon? They are cool to wear. Also if he got ones with a zip on the leg he could convert them to shorts in the privacy of home.
I have had a catheter for 3 years now. Firstly they gave me the longer length with a bag. Then a short one with bag. I enquired about a flip flo valve instead of a bag and have used one ever since. Just a tap you open and close as you urinate. Short pipe can be hidden in underwear which allows the wearing of shorts.
