Hi, didn’t imagine I’d be posting here a few months ago…….I normally post on holiday/travel forums…. So hello. I had PSA x 2 before Christmas 2023. 8.2. 7.1 Then MRI , then biopsy. Diagnosed mid Jan 4+3. I’ve seen a consultant who 1st broke the news. Apparently I have 2 slow 2 moderate from biopsy. She kind of gave me the option to have removal or Active S. I also spoke to my Dr and in fact another Dr also . When pushed all 3 said they may well side with the A.S. In the mean time I had the choice to go and see the actual consultant / surgeon at the hospital 100 miles from where I live that do the op. Very nice chap, BUT he said he did not like a Gleason 4+3 in a 57 yr old and advised I have the op although that was just his kind advice. He said if it was a Gleason 6 , yes 100% do nothing apart from keeping an eye on it. I kind of feel I need to listen to him and go ahead with the op. I can just hear his voice as he as he did say “ I do not like a Gleason 7 in a 57 yr old . Anyway that’s my story so Thankyou..
My concerns regarding surgery was the fact that it was being offered as my only solution following my upgraded Gleason score and I wasn’t happy that the surgeon concerned wasn’t prepared to consider any other alternative. Being ignorant in these matters I have to rely on the skill of my oncologist and so far nothing happened to suggest that my treatment isn’t working.
Hello SP2356
That's one important issue we battle against in the diagnostic stage - a Surgeon will go for his speciality and an Oncologist will go for their own.
It's pleasing to note your treatment is working.
Best wishes - Brian.

I think he means HT and EBRT. By definition, AS and EBRT don’t go together as AS is no treatment and EBRT is treatment. Besides, with a Gleason 9 there should be no way he’s not on some systemic therapy such as HT for at least a couple of years.

Probably my error, told you I was ignorant about these matters, but to clarify I’m taking Abiraterone daily and Zoladex injections every 3 months which I will be taking for a minimum of 2 years and as indicated just completed 20 sessions of radiotherapy

I can only go off the information provided in a post - my Ghast was Flabbered when I read Gleason 9 and AS - I am now lying down in a darkened room being tended by my nurse!! .
No in all honesty thanks for sorting all that out - I am now aware of the true situation. Cheers AW - that's set my mind right.
Best wishes - Brian.
