Hi, didn’t imagine I’d be posting here a few months ago…….I normally post on holiday/travel forums…. So hello. I had PSA x 2 before Christmas 2023. 8.2. 7.1 Then MRI , then biopsy. Diagnosed mid Jan 4+3. I’ve seen a consultant who 1st broke the news. Apparently I have 2 slow 2 moderate from biopsy. She kind of gave me the option to have removal or Active S. I also spoke to my Dr and in fact another Dr also . When pushed all 3 said they may well side with the A.S. In the mean time I had the choice to go and see the actual consultant / surgeon at the hospital 100 miles from where I live that do the op. Very nice chap, BUT he said he did not like a Gleason 4+3 in a 57 yr old and advised I have the op although that was just his kind advice. He said if it was a Gleason 6 , yes 100% do nothing apart from keeping an eye on it. I kind of feel I need to listen to him and go ahead with the op. I can just hear his voice as he as he did say “ I do not like a Gleason 7 in a 57 yr old . Anyway that’s my story so Thankyou..
Hi all, been a busy boy today. Plenty of phone calls to Truro and derriford. I think my mind is finally clear. Been told regardless of what hospital or treatments they offer my prostate is small. I need to have it took out . My age, lymph nodes and all the chat I have been Reasurred prostate over brackytheropy . Regards , Mat .
Hi MWP. I love your intro as my previous ‘reports’ were also product reviews and Tripadvisor. I have watched you struggle with trying to arrive at a decision as most of us have done and you have definitely put the work in. I remember thinking initially that there would be ‘the guy’ who would just say ‘ this is your best route’. So, you’ve done your research and come to a decision. This should hopefully take away some anxiety - it did for me.
I chose surgery and am now 24 days post op. There is nothing to fear and you will be in the best hands. I am happy with my progress and planning my first pub lunch for later this week. Most importantly I still feel like me. Best of luck with your treatment and please keep us posted.
Yes, I agree with eddiel - you have taken ownership of the decision after plenty of research. You go into this with optimism and head held high. Bring it on - you have a lot in your favour and multiple consultants and doctors to guide you. AW
Hi Mat,
It's funny how making a decision seemed to me to be the hardest part of the journey as research can be quite tiring (not to mention confusing at times). Now that part is done & a decision has been made I hope everything goes well for you.
All the best,
Brian
