Hi all , I’ve got my pre assessments nxt week and January again for my two bouts of brachnytherapy, but lo and behold Thursday started a Crohn’s flare which resulted in the ambulance guys trying to get me off bedroom floor as it gets bad with stomach cramps etc , so a four day stay and back home this evening, don’t need this added extra with what’s in store re brachnytherapy soon , thank god for morphine at Hossy lol

  • Ye I told em I’d just had a two week one of antibiotics and they didn’t work anyway , so may not bother wit em I future as didn’t know it was cause of c diff and the severs cramps , bloody chest infections, bloody Crohn’s, bloody prostate C, oh and bloody holidays in hospitals , but known nothing else since I was 17 , Narr never get used to it lol

    Cheers , Jonny mac

  • Yes my sister had this when she was hospitalised with Crohns after having antibiotics she then got Cdiff.  Had a colostomy and then also got MRSA after the operation.  This is all years ago and my sister now has a J pouch so is "back to normal" but she left with a balance problem caused by the antibiotics she was on continually in hospital.  So best not to stay on the same antibiotic for too long.  We notice now that if my wife is ever on antibiotics for her chest infections - she has asthma, bronchiectasis and aspergillosis to contend with, that they change the type of antibiotic after 10 days to 14 days.

  • Thanks for the info and I’m at my dr,s in morn for my monthly make me a woman injection , so I’ll ask , cheers

  • Johnnymac, WW is right that it is very contagious and can be for so for 48 hours after symptoms have disappeared. Because the bug is a spore former it can be more difficult to get rid of as things like bacterial wipes or hand gels are not effective. It is good old fashioned soap and water that is needed on all surfaces but also make sure that all clothes, bedlinen, towels etc. are washed after the 48 hours or you will risk reinfecting yourself.

    Take care.

  • Hi Johnnymac, in my healthcare days came across C Diff a few times and most of those who had it had been on more than one antibiotic, or had been prescribed them too often recently, as they were getting less and less effective, and i am not sure if any new antibiotics have become available recently. Johnnymac you should always be careful about using antibiotics as you build up resistance to them. There are times though when they are very important, I'm with you regarding health issues and hospitals, "bloody nuisance", take care, Eddie

  • If I recall correctly, in my NHS work days, they started giving oral vancomycin for C Diff. I don't know whether they do that now, though!  Horrible illness!

  • Evening Worriedwife, i do remember vancomycin and it was pretty effective with virtually no side effects just had to drink plenty, Like you say a horrible illness, though don't remember any nice ones. but many cases could have been prevented if patients had been tested to see if C Diff was present before destroying the good bacteria with antibiotics that kept C Diff under control .I have been writing a poem, maybe share it one day, anyway dog wants out then bedtime, was going to type good night in Greek but they have some unusual letters, so now i know where the saying, "it's all Greek to me", comes from. good night to both of you, take care, Eddie.

  • And your lesson for today Eddie.

Kalinichta (kal-ee-nick-ta) with a short a as in bat for goodnight.

Kalimera (kal-ee-mare-a) with the a as in bat for good morning.

  • We soon got quite good at recognising distinctive signs as symptoms though! Would love to read your poem! I am researching for a potential book right now! Don’t know whether I will achieve the book but I’m enjoying the research!

  • Hi Alwayshope, as my dad was Polish warto wiedziec, I look forward to tomorrows lesson, take care, Eddie
