Hello All
I just thought it might be a good idea to have a new thread as Christmas and New Year are catching us up very quickly.
I appreciate that as we get nearer the time people will be busy with family time etc so I thought we could use this thread to discuss Christmas and the New year. Your plans for the festive period and hopes and aspirations for 2024.
There is one thing we all have in common and bonds us together Prostate Cancer - either as the person diagnosed/wife/partner/carer or family member and for some of us 2023 has been a tough old time. It's been a very good year though on the forum I think - everyone has pulled together and been very thoughtful, welcoming to new Community members and amazing at providing help, information and support to each other.- that's what we do.
On a personal note I would like to thank everyone who has helped me during the year - especially since I have had the "Community Champions" hat on - it's very much appreciated and long may it continue, thank you again!!. There will of course be the usual support throughout the festive season from the Community.
So on that note stay safe and have the best Christmas possible and a great 2024.
Best wishes - Brian and Mrs Millibob (Lorraine).
Still feeling very anxious and waiting for the oncology appointment on 27th December. I have been particularly worried when reading about spread to the liver - I had an MRI of the abdomen about 2 weeks ago and that only showed lymph nodes and bone lesions in the pelvic area. Would liver secondary have showed up on the MRI and also lymph nodes near the liver?
Good to hear from you Carshalton51.
When you had your MRI did the plate they put on top of you cover your upper abdomen as well as the lower abdomen? If it did then it would show up anything in your liver, pancreas... My husband has a mass behind the pancreas as well as lymph nodes metastasis in that area so he is used to having upper abdominal scans. Is there any reason why you think there may be a problem with the liver or lymph nodes because it is extremely rare to have spread in this area but in his case it is still responding to treatment. Blood tests would have checked things like liver and kidney function amongst other things and would often pick up if there is a problem. You could also have had a whole body scan which would have picked any metastasis up.
Please come back with any questions.
Carshalton51 Many thanks for coming back to us.
Sorry you are feeling anxious, we have all been there waiting to hear our own diagnosis. It wouldn’t be normal not to be worrying about your future. We are not medically trained but Alwayshope has indicated that it is unlikely to have impacted your liver, without other tests being abnormal, so hopefully you can put that out of your mind.
I don’t know if you have been Googling for info, but we all seem to agree that it generally makes things worse, so maybe try to restrict your research to Prostate Cancer UK or the MacMillan sites. As Brian mentioned in a previous post, there is help available from the MacMillan helplines.
Good luck on the 27th.
David
Best wishes, David
Please remember that I am not medically trained and the above are my personal views.
Hello Carshalton51 Great to hear from you. I think the reply from Alwayshope above is better than anything I could have posted. Stick with us and between us we will be there for you.
Best wishes - Brian.

Of course you are anxious it is normal. From what I learnt in the last 4 weeks is that our cancer when advanced love to spread to the bones and usually leaves the other organs alone. Cross fingers no liver or otherwise.
Hopefully you reinstate Christmas?
Lots of love from Brighton

one year my children told me that my husband had bought me a set of saucepans for Christmas! I was devastated as I have never enjoyed cooking and have always valued gifts for me and not for anything domestic. I dreaded having to open his present in front of everyone and having to pretend to be surprised and delighted. I left his present until the very last and still didn’t want to open it! They eventually got me to open it ! It was not saucepans! I can’t now remember what it was but I know I would have been delighted with anything but!!!!
Magic that Shar - he's a lucky man. I remember finishing my Radiotherapy, I did all the right things no Alcohol and all the correct foods. The evening after I had finished I had a couple of pints of the finest local ale (draught bitter) and then Pudding, Chips Mushy Peas and Gravy - wow it was just exquisite!!

Here's one for you!
Did you know that today 22nd December is "the Eve of the Eve of Christmas Eve"???
When I was young, very young, me and my brother used to celebrate the "Eve of the Eve of Christmas Eve ".
I still say it now over 50 years later (when I can remember of course).

Who else misses a traditional white Christmas?
I always looked forward as a child to Christmas eve when there was snow lying on the ground. It was than a magical walk through our local park (Elmdon) up the hill to a candlelit service at the local church. Boy was it chilly sitting on the old style wooden pews in there as there was no heating, but wrapped up in a warm coat, scarf gloves & hat made it all the more enjoyable. Then a walk back home again for something warming before heading off to bed before Santa arrived.
