CBD capsules for Hot Flushes

Since HT started I had horrific hot flushes, particularly at night, resulting in about 2.5 hours sleep a night - if I was lucky... It was suggested that a course of CBD capsules could help with my sleep pattern and, although they are expensive (£55-00 for 60 capsules) I decided to try them as I was absolutely desperate.

The first night I took a CBD capsule I had 10 hours continuous sleep!

Since then I have had mostly unbroken sleep nights, up to 7 hours, but with the occasional 'bad' night where I've only had about 6 hours.

I'm aware that CBD is not approved, but it has worked far better than other 'herbal' (Sage tablets) remedies - for me, and it may not work for everyone.

  • Hi Andy.

I am glad you have found something that works for you. Can I please put a warning that if anyone is having chemotherapy it can interfere with the efficacy of the treatment or make it more dangerous. As with any supplements make sure that you check with the medical professionals before taking it.

  • Hi Andy,

Thanks for this information which is interesting to know.  I am sure most men have no idea how debilitating hot flushes can be until they suffer with them.  I find the ones during the day aren't too bad to manage but did suffer at night with them & then the need to go for a pee (for some reason the were never at the same time so lots of interrupted sleep).

I'm currently trying sage tablets taken just before bed which do seem to have helped to an extent but should the problem get worse will now be able to consider giving CBD capsules a try - will just need to clear with the GP in case of any interaction with other medication.

  • Hi Andy

Thank you for the advice it's been noted and I am so pleased it's sorted you out. I was aware it's available and of course I can't go down that route in confirming it's the treatment to take, however as it works for you I can't see a problem with your post.

I can only recommend sage tablets from a certain retailer that worked for me (H & B Manoforce) and I am fine with those. Please.be aware of the Community guidelines regarding the use of CBD oils and capsules and I will leave it at that.

    Best wishes - Brian.

  • CBD can also interfere with the action of Enzalutamide.

  • Hi Andy

My husband had really poor sleep due to severe hot flushes and tried the high strength sage capsules but unfortunately they didn’t work for him.  He was getting quite low in mood due to lack of sleep but after discussing this with his Oncologist he was prescribed Cyproterone tablets and he has no hot flushes now. He is also on Prostap injections 3 monthly and Abiraterone and due to start radiotherapy in November.  He is getting a good sleep now.

    Hi Linda.

Please be aware that Cyproterone is contra indicated for people who are diabetic as it causes a rise in HbA1C blood sugar. Many medical professionals aren't aware of this so you should read the patient information leaflet (PIL) included in the pack. It might not be a problem for your husband and cutting down on sugar intake can keep it under control.

If you are concerned please contact your GP and show them the PIL.

Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift.

  • Hi Seamus,

Thank you, it may well be helpful for others to know this. Unfortunately my husband is already type 2 diabetic and is on Metformin and has, on purpose, lost three stone in weight.  He is now classed as pre diabetic but they are keeping him on the Metformin and monitoring his bloods every two weeks, mainly due to the Abiraterone but also checking his HbA1c.

    regards

    Linda
