Can You have spread to bones without it spreading to lymph nodes.
husbands scan was clear for lymph nodes but still has to get bo e scan but consultant said he confident bone scan will be clear as he knows how it works?

  • A bone scan is a standard part of the diagnosis process. Try not to overthink it

  • Yeah I know I was just wondering what the point would be having the scan if he seems to know it will be clear? I just wish I had been with my husband when he got the call as I would have been able to support him and ask questions on his behalf

  • I can't remember the stats but unless they are all low they probably just want to be sure not in the bones.

It's good not in nodes, I'm sure will be ok, in some ways good that they are doing these extra checks

  • My understanding is that after a PSA and digital examination you would normally have an MRI. From that they have some idea of where the cancer is most likely to have spreed. My next scan was of bones. I don't remember having a specific scan of lymph nodes. The MIR also believe helps them target the biopsy and any other scans. I also had a PET scan, which looks for cancer in every part of the body. There were no evidence that it had spread outside of the prostate. I had radiotherapy in July 2022 & so far so good. They not to over think it, which I know is easier said than done particularly for partners. If you are still worrying give Prostate UK nurses a call.

  • Yeah he had psa it was 30.4 Dre showed enlarged prostate with suspicious lump on left side.
mri and ct scan we’re done which has shown no cancer spread to lymph nodes but it has moved but we not clear what he meant as he started speaking about houses, garages, neighbours,

said he will do bone scan but thinks it will be clear.

biopsy will be done 11/3 and we will have a telephone consultation on the 16/3 so will have to wait till then to find out exactly where it is unless can find out when he getting biopsy.

he has been told definetly cancer which I thought they couldn’t tell till biopsy done but husband asked if could be benign but he just said no it is definetly cancer.

  • My oh has spread to bones no mention of lymph nodes

  • Hi  there . Been reading your messages & sending good thoughts big time . I was told by a not very nice Dr ( on phone ) that MRI scan couldnt conclusively show C .  Biopsy is only 100% way .  My lesion is 5mm and intermediate which basically means biopsy time now . Good luck

  • Although the tests and scans he's had give a strong indication of whether there is PC or not I was told that they wont say it till after the biopsy as its only then that they will know the Gleason score. which is how they know whether it has spread and the degree it has spread withing. the prostate and what treatment options are,{surgery/RT}. Is he taking Tamulosin? I was recommended  to take them prior to biopsy. As they would help recovery from Biopsy. and they certainly did help. Good luck on the 11/3 and  with what ever follow.

  • I think maybe as he had a ct scan with dye too so the two gave maybe shown more detail. He had his bone scan today with dye. They doing his all back to front. All a bit confusing.

  • Our consultant has said it definetly is which is strange as at the first consultation he said they can’t confirm it till biopsy but then he phoning saying it is and has rushed through biopsy. He has been given the appointment but no information on what to expect. We were trying to go book a holiday for the Thursday fir 1 week before he has to start potential treatment but he was advised not too as will take at least a week to recover. My dad recently had biopsy and was fine. Yes he has been prescribed tamulosin he is starting that tonight so does that work straight away? Appreciate all advice given.
