This is for anyone who can't keep on the topic.  It's hard not to stray, but if we have 'no specific topic ' we can't go off topic.

It is good just to be able to wander and talk about other things.

I could have named it 'Waffle'.  Then I couldn't go off topic.

  • Hi Sidsmum. The NHS has a 28 day best practice timed pathway for prostate cancer patients. The times you should have are:

MRI and Biopsy by day 9, MDT meeting by day 21 and outpatient clinic by day 28.

I think I would be onto urology at your hospital in the morning to find out why this hasn't happened and what they plan to do about it. You need to know your husbands true condition for a treatment plan to be in place.

    Kind Regards - Brian.

  • Hi Millibob,

Sorry, didn't make myself clear. He was diagnosed 18 months ago and has been on HT only due to other health problems.

I was just feeling left out Laughing, as you all seem to have all these numbers to compare whereas all we knew was that he had advanced PC with bone mets. He did have some more scans last year when he started having back pain and the nurses were brilliant and got him in the next day after my call. They were concerned about spinal compression, which luckily it wasn't, but they did discover he was very dehydrated and was kept in for a couple of days on a drip, so not a complete waste of time.

It just seemed strange that he never had any biopsies but maybe the scans were enough. I think now we just get the odd call from Oncology Consultant and regular PSA tests and left to our own devices unless there is a problem.

    Have a great Sunday.

    Gina

  • Hi Gina I'm a wee bit confused, I knew that the cancer had spread, the reason for biopsies is to find out how agressive the cancer is the higher the Gleason score the more agressive is the cancer, scans show where it is and how large it is but not how fast it can spread

  • Hi Ulls,

Yes, I thought we were missing something and so have no idea how aggressive it is as no biopsy. Not sure if maybe it is to do with his age, now 78. Perhaps when you get older speed is not important so they don't bother. Thanks for explaining though.

    Gina

  • Thanks Gina - Happy to help, no issues, you just appear to have been left in the dark somewhat. As Ulls said no biopsy, then no idea how how  fast it can spread. Your other half has still beaten me with his PSA score so I am off to sulk for the rest of the evening!!

No seriously you two take care and my best wishes for 2023 - let's hope things can only get better.

    Kind Regards - Brian.

  • When I hear of all these massively high PSA levels, I look back at mine, just a tiny 12.9

Was I lucky it was caught early enough on?

Hats off to all of you, I can imagine these high PSA levels come with more stress for both the men and their wives.

As Eric Idle said "Always look on the bright side of life".

That's the title of my next diary (number 9).

Brian, last week eh! When you ring the bell you could stuff a cushion up your back and voila... Guess who?

    No, not me!

    Steve (SteveCam)

  • Morning Steve - It's a numbers game - My PSA at the planning scan was 1.37 and my testosterone was 0.6 (almost not even a woman!). but you are right when I was diagnosed at PSA 182 and told it should be below 5 that was a shock to say the least.

Last week of HT. to be honest I am glad. I am feeling the fatigue now and I do spend more time in the little boys room!!

    Cheers -Quasimodo!!
