This is for anyone who can't keep on the topic.  It's hard not to stray, but if we have 'no specific topic ' we can't go off topic.

It is good just to be able to wander and talk about other things.

I could have named it 'Waffle'.  Then I couldn't go off topic.

  • Yes, it does help and than you!  I am wondering if any of you gentlemen had any long term side effects of the ht eg diabetes, bones etc?

  • Morning Seamus. Amazing, we both have the same diagnosis but our arrival here and our journey through treatment are both totally different. It just shows how much the individual and the individuals' s NHS trust can affect the way we progress. Even after almost two different paths we both appear to be on the right road to recovery.

Well done Seamus and thanks for your input, reading  your blog and messages has been a great help and inspiration to me.

    Kind regards - Brian.

  • Hi WW - I was already type 2 diabetic when diagnosed with PC although my GP says the HT is messing with my diabetic control and he's to review it after my RT finishes. I did have to tell him I wanted Calcium and Vitamin D to keep the bone strength up though!!.

    Kind Regards - Brian.

  • Hi Millibob, Gleason doe's go to 10, but what I found odd and should have asked at the time, is Gleason 5/4 is more agressive then Gleason 4/5. I'll ask when I see oncologist next month.

  • Hi Ulls - It's all in the wording:

4+5 - Most of the cancer cells found in the biopsy look likely to grow at a moderate rate. There are some cancer cells that are likely to grow quickly.

5+4 - Most of the cancer cells found in the biopsy look likely to grow quickly. There are some cancer cells that look likely to grow at a moderate rate.

No I didn't know from memory - quote from " How prostate cancer is diagnosed" by Prostate Cancer UK available to download from their webby thing or order online.

    Typical of me - I've got the 5 + 4.

    Cheers - Brian.

  • I am slightly confused having read all the references to Gleason and minuses an pluses etc. My husband just had a PSA (as mentioned before 1200), then a DRE at the hospital, where the rather uncaring female doctor pronounced rather abruptly "you have advanced prostate cancer"!). Then, you could have one to ten years left!!

The appointment was supposed to be for an MRI and when we got there, they asked me to leave and come back later. I flatly refused and said I would just wait whilst he had the scan as, if there was any information or result given, I needed to be there as he would not remember what was said. Just as well I did as he didn't have the scan, just ushered into a consulting room where the doc shoved her finger up his bum and pronounced advanced prostate cancer. At least she removed her finger and glove before she told him! I am so glad I was there as we weren't expecting a diagnosis so soon, especially without the scan.

He was put on the monthly hormone injections the very next day. It was only after this that he had three types of scans which showed he had multiple lesions in the bones. All we know really is that it is Grade 4, but no Gleason information.

So my question if anyone can answer, why didn't he have a biopsy?
