This is for anyone who can't keep on the topic. It's hard not to stray, but if we have 'no specific topic ' we can't go off topic.
It is good just to be able to wander and talk about other things.
I could have named it 'Waffle'. Then I couldn't go off topic.
I have kept chickens and ducks for years. A long time ago on of my hens was scouring and I didn't know what to do. I gave her some meds, but that didn't work so in the end, worrying that she was in pain and probably going to die, I gave her to an old chap in the village, who said he could despatch her quickly and painlessly. So I dropped her off to him, shed a few tears and said goodbye.
A few days later, the old boy popped round to see Richard. He had a handful of vegetables. Richard asked what they were for. He said "well, one good turn deserves another". He had roasted my pet hen .

The tortoise? Yes! Our sons bought him almost 46 years ago! We have no idea about gender or age!
hope all is well with you and that R is behaving? You know where I am if you need to let off steam or have a break! I’ve not used my March Gates voucher yet!
Gina, your Hen might have tasted nice??? If not a bit chewy.
A farmer's wife who used to bring her lambs in for slaughter, had a stall at Hexham Farmers' Market.
The weekend after she'd been in with a couple of lambs, all of these lamb joints of meat were on her stall. She said "Do you not recognise them?"
We ended up getting different cuts of lamb every month. She done a lovely Mutton joint (and it wasn't dressed up as lamb).
She even brought me some amazing lamb koftas into work one day.

Hi, busy week as Michelle has now got her new house and I have been there every afternoon this week decorating. Think we may have to use the April voucher. Got my eye injection on Tuesday, and absolutely dreading it. After the last one I am going to ask for something else, rather than the iodine as I am sure that is what set off all the pain last time.
R is playing me up at bedtimes. He had a fall over a week ago and has broken a rib or two. Whilst fine most of the time, he suddenly decides he cannot use his arm to get up or get off the stairlift. He sat at the top of the stairs for over 10 mins saying he couldn't get up. Michelle had to come up and push him and I was worried he was going to knock her back downstairs backwards. It may be something to do with dementia but when you see him using his arm to get out of his chair during the day, and then suddenly acts as if it is broken, in the evening is so very frustrating and aggravating!! I am seriously scraping the bottom of my patience barrel.
Not sure about any other chaps but I am having an almost full wash every couple of days with trousers, pj's, pants etc which are soaked in urine. He wears those huge big pads which are supposed to hold 2 ltrs of fluid but still manages to soak them. He uses a bottle to pee in as can't get to the loo quick enough but then often dribbles down his joggers too. He insists on having a fizzy drink each day and then is allowed a g n t in the evening, but fails to drink his Lemon Barley and this does not help his continence. He also manages to get his bedding covered in wee too, which means constantly changing his bedding.
Sorry, I believe I am just venting, but I would like to know if this is normal for his condition?

Hey Sidsmum G
you vent away . If you’re having to change clothing / bedding etc. contact you continence nurse and ask for an urgent review . There are products out there but you need them prescribed . If it is becoming detrimental to his skin integrity . He may need catheterised. You need to keep asking for support . In Scotland they do a laundry service via NHS and provide bedding that they take away to be laundered taking away the stress of constant laundry.
hugest hugs and take care of yourself

Hi Gina
Sounds like you're mega busy ....and decorating on top of everything else!!! Superwoman!!! I take my hat off to you!
Just a thought, is Richard very thirsty and drinking lots to make him wee a lot? If so, has he had his blood sugar levels checked? Could he be diabetic?
Re the eye injection. When my husband had the same intensity of pain that one time, the consultant suggested that the cornea might have been scratched. We asked for something other than the iodine but they were very anti this because of the increased risk of infection. The one thing he did learn from it was to keep installing the lubricating drops very frequently for the first 12-24 hours as this eased the discomfort and wasjhed the iodine out. LRI always provided a full bottle of drops with every injection. I hope all goes well this time.
I used to dread having to drive my husband over for the injection and then watch him struggle afterwards. It's a relief not to have them any more in some ways.
Take care of yourself and see you soon - when you emerge from the painting!!!

He is a diabetic, type 2, but just wants fizzy drinks - ie anything which tastes like alcohol, even if it is zero alcohol. That is the problem, carbonated drinks go straight through him. We make him decaf coffee during the day but he only usually drinks half a cup each time.
Was it only the once when hubby had a bad reaction? I am so worried about being in so much pain as I was last time. During the night I was getting stabbing pains in the eye which woke me and made me scream out, it was awful. Never been as bad as that before. Surely if there is an alternative, and they are using sterile equipment, it should be okay I would have thought? Also, still having jabs every six weeks when it had moved to 8 weeks before. I no sooner get over the experience when it is time to go again. I have those capsules for the false tears, what make are the ones he has, maybe they are better? x
Hi Gina, the drops the hospital gave him were hypromellose 0.3%. He only had that severe pain you describe once. The hospital insisted on using iodine. He had injections every 6-8 weeks. They stopped doing them last year because the risks , including infection, outweighed the minimal benefits of doing them as he has lost almost all vision in that eye and the injections were not working very well. He was having the drops for CRVO and not macular disease. The one time he experienced severe pain.he was in a terrible state. The rest of the time it discomfort and gungy eye for a day.
HTH.
Sounds like what I had last time, it was horrendous. I normally just have discomfort, a feeling of eyelid dragging on eye and/or something in the eye. The last time was so very different, more like I had acid in my eye.
Anyway, I feel bad using this thread for my problems, so we will see what happens after Tuesday. xx
